would anyone know what this motor is , and approx what year it was made--9YA/Ta/H26673

I think it's from a mini deluxe , 998cc but don't know the age apart from 66 to 69ish ? Morris 1100 will be able to narrow it down though .

The Mini Deluxe with engine number 9YA/Ta/H26769 was sold on the 20/6/67, so yours would be very close to that. :wink:

Would it matter what state the car was sold in Mike :?: ....NSW might have had a faster delivery time if they wern't operating a quota system for each state.

The farthest away you were, you may have had to wait untill an economic shipping quantity (of BMC product) was reached....this theory, might of course, be pure bullcrap :roll: :lol:

We have no manufacture dates so all we have is the purchase dates in some surviving hanbooks. The one I quoted was sold in Narrabri. It may have been an ordered car in which case the sale date would be close to the manufacture date, or the car may have sat in the showroom for months until a buyer was found.

Thanks guys, it also has the front brace , below the bonnet catch, at an angle. Was that standard on the Deluxe as well. Here in NZ, only some Cooper S's had that. cheers

It's obvious if a Deluxe bracket has been simply put on angled, or cut and rewelded. The real S bracket is a different shape part I think.

In the olden days...when parts were plentiful (even Cooper S angled brackets) and insurance was considered "expensive" for the sporty Coopers.....several people turned perfectly good Coopers into Deluxes to make them easy to sell.

I've seen the angled braces on a number of cars including deluxes and a fair few vans. Apart from repair panels over the years being substituted with whatever was at hand, perhaps they just weren't that fastidious at the factory with using the up and down bracket apron???

With the vans and the braces, I always had a theory that if any car deserved the oil cooler, it was the overworked and loaded to the roof van. Perhaps they entertained the idea? But I think it was just a fanciful thought on my behalf...
