Hey All, My mate came over tonight and wanted to go for a ride in my mini for the first time. So we get in the car and head down to get a pizza for dinner and it starts POURING down. Could only see 20m in front of me, but the mini seemed to love it. Anyways about 50m from the pizza shop at a round-a-bout i hit a bump and the car suddenly died. OMG i couldnt start it, lost all electrics. Anyways my mate and I get out in the pouring rain and push the car 50m into a nearby servo. After 15 minutes of fiddly around I go and buy some WD40 and try that out .... but still no electrics. Anyways after alot more fiddling around I finally realised that my cut of switch had short out somehow when i went over the bump, so I cut the wires and by-passed the switch and my little mini started straight away. I was sooooooooooooooo relieved. Wet but relieved. CYa Lucas |

minis stopping in the rain is a myth i reckon. only ever did it to me once, and that was absoulute torrential stuff. every 3rd car in the car park at the SFS was stuffed, so i did not feel to bad. |

"Another great bush survival story from our fellow Aussie friend" -Russell Coight And yep, it is a myth. It's only ever happened to me once too, and that was going thru a HUGE deep puddle (more like lake) whilst it was pissing down... and even then it was only a mere stutter. |

If a Minis ignition system is in good condition and clean it should not muck up but when the plugs get worn and the leads are covered in dirt the car can stop in a little drizzle. So keep it clean and maintained and it should not give any trouble. I run a plastic ice cream tub over my dizzy if I know it is going to be very wet, just to make sure! |

by the way, which wires were cut by the bump? and did you have 10m of wire spare in the boot? ![]() nuclear mini's webber touches the firewall, and the wires from the dash crawl out through the rotary hole every vibration is a step towards cutting them all off... |

the yellow mini we used to have would play up in the rain quite a bit. we eventually replaced the dist. cap, and it helped a lot, but something about that car was never 100% happy in wet weather. the other minis we've had have never really had a problem. the red one had a rubber boot off memory. |
