Post subject: | Mini runs in Sydney |
Hi Guys and Gals I'll try and be brief and clear but I do tend to run away with key boards so bare with me. Mikey and I enjoyed the run to the Gong last weekend and the run up to the Dam in November and have met great people made new friends seen great cars interesting engineering and basically had a F#*&KING hoot. I hope people have enjoyed seeing the Elf as much as we have enjoyed seeing everybody elses cars. Mikey and I have nine BMC cars mostly minis and because we can't afford to road register them all we take advantage of the historic registration scheme costing us $50 per annum for rego and green slip and greatly reducing our insurance costs. The flip side is we have an 8 kilometre test range from place of garaging and can use the cars for car club activities (we are a member of 3 car clubs) and other events run by the council of motor clubs (CMC) which most car clubs belong to. This excludes us from taking these historic registered minis to runs organized on AUSMINI because AUSMINI isn't a club. I have told other friends with minis about the Fabbo runs were've been on who have minis on the historic rego scheme who unfortunately don't have a mini on full rego like Mikey and I and subsequentley can't come. They feel a little bumed out as they'd love to come aswell and Mikey and I would love to bring some of our other cars so I've been trying to think of ways around the issue so we can just have more minis coming and have more fun. Normally to participate in another clubs runs it has to have CMC affiliation but as said before AUSMINI isn't a club so I though what if when a run is organised it gets a posted on a few club websites and reads something like XXX club will be joining the Ausmini guys on a run to where ever. It wouldn't be high jacking the run or taking it over and many people in clubs mighten even want to come or be interested but it would allow people like Mikey and I who love to drive our minis as often as possible to take advantage of the historic rego scheme without breaking its rules and get more cars out of the garage more often. This is not political and its not about clubs. Whether you belong to a club or not I don't care, if you hate the NSW mini club or not isn't and issue and shouldn't be the issue. choice is a great thing. I and some other friends would just like to drive more of our cars on more runs. I love driving the Elf on runs but I'd also like to drive or have mates drive my other cars aswell. Its all about sharing the passion (crap Shannons would love that) driving, meeting new people and having fun. My News Years resolution is not about harping on about the way things were done or the way things have been or are percieved, its all about doing things differently. So if you have huge objections please think why because their shouldn't be any? we all love minis. I'm doing it regarless of objections because I want more minis on the road and will always campaign for these. Comments of support greatly appretiated negativity not wanted as I'm not about locking gates or excluding people from having FUN. Sorry to go on but I did warn you Steve |

Steve..and Mikey it was great to catch up with both on the weekend and I hope it will continue. I will be joining the MCC again as I believe thier is a lot of good point us you have raised and we talked about on the the run. If we can get enought younger people with Mini's and moded Mini's into the club it will change the the club for the better and more mini's into the club. Just meeting up with everyone and looking at all the DIFFERENT mini's on the weekend was exciting. Driving around as a group and seeing everyone faces as 16 mini's drove by was priceless and has to happen mor often. Runs like the The Gong Cruise and Kazjims Garage rumble has to happen more ofter specialy if we can incorporate a club so the Historic plated Mini's can join atherwise we would not be able to see them unless its a special event. Yep I'm with you both and total agree. Have you had your BBQ yet |

What about Registering the MDC as an "Official" Club in the CMC Scheme ? We've talked about it for years and never really got around to it .... We'd be happy to affiliate with most clubs, so long as they understand we are about DRIVING the cars, who cares what hose clamps are on it ....... There, its been said. MDC - Make it official.........I nominate Kev G for Club Pres, Chris D for secretary and Dean P for treasurer ...... J |

Steve I couldn't agree more with what you said. This is exactly what we did with the Geelong run that Ausmini members organised. We ran the event under the banner of the Vic Mini Club Inc. and this allowed all the CH plate cars to attend. It was a great run and the start of more to come hopefully. |

I usually work Sundays during the year, and that means i get to miss out on alot of the mccnsw events. if we could make MDC official for the runs so we can broaden our cruise content and variety, id love it coz id get to see many other minis ps. i think MDC stands for Mini Drivers Club? and also, voting YES for "more minis" doesnt automatically mean that there will be more old slow grumpy snobby minis on every cruise, its having the option of increasing the number of minis (which is a great feeling) theres always an option of having your own cruise privately anytime because we're all on full rego |

This is exactly what we did with the Geelong run that Ausmini members organised. We ran the event under the banner of the Vic Mini Club Inc. and this allowed all the CH plate cars to attend. It was a great run and the start of more to come hopefully. Historic rego is just that....a reduced cost scheme to allow historic vehicles controlled access to the road under the auspices of a car club structure. Each club has the responsibility to ensure its members are complying with the spirit of the scheme. If you don't want to conform with the scheme, which includes being a member of an affiliated car club, then go down and register your pride and joy to use as you wish. Another example to add to Mutants, the ACT Mini Car Clubs recent Show and Shine and subsequent cruise around Canberra. This is an annual club event but this year we had cars participating from Wagga Mini CC (NSW Mini CC sub-branch) and other invited guests from NSW ![]() ![]() Hey! Steve and Mikey have even been to "Wheels" in Canberra with the ACT Mini Car Club (Wheels is a combined car club display for charity held annually (March) in Canberra). The MGCC in Canberra has a regular mid-week run which is a bit of an institution AFAIK.....the NSW Mini CC might also be persuaded to support such cruises (including weekend runs) if people went along and proposed such events, offered to organise etc they might just happen. Not trying to be a wet blanket here, just stating the facts. The only way you can have the benefits of a club (including Public Liability Insurance) or Concessional Registration is to join one and get involved....you can't have your cake and eat it too..... To my mind, if you make the MDC an official club, you will probably be getting away from its original intent....enjoy driving cars without the overhead of being in a club. BTW not all MDC or Ausmini members are youngsters!!! There seems to be this idea that old = fuddy duddy and I for one resemble that remark!!! All of the Canberra club runs in the past have involved a wide range of ages and vehicles types (even a Marina once!!) Enjoy your Minis!! (hope the above helps... ![]() |

Hey Duc, whats wrong with slow minis (mines not grumpy or snobby though). The 850 is the original. It may take 40 sec for the 1/4 mile so can't compare to 13sec for outright speed, but its just as much fun on a cruise ![]() |

I also think AUSMINI is fantastic and should stay the way it is, thats why it works so well, MCC dosen't want to be AUSMINI and AUSMINI dosen't want to be the MCC but we all like exactly the same thing and choose which suits us best. Many of us participate in both. Instead of bagging different aspects enjoy each for what it is and what it can do for you. Both offer people different things. For me the most important thing is to find a happy medium in the middle so we can play together as there are no legitimate reasons for it not to happen as pointed out with the Canberra and Melbourne mini clubs. Big chill pills all round think less and enjoy more. Next shannons eastern creek show and shine Mick your 850 and Dorothy can do a head to head battle down the standing quarter mile. If the big boys can do it so can we, might even draw a crowd. Steve |

So Steve, what are the costs involved with Ratifying a car club though the CMC ? I'm guessing you need to contact the RTA and an Approved insurer, but apart from that, whats the details ? J |

Post subject: | Becoming a club |
J To affiliate with CMC you first have to register as a club with the department of fair trading hold elections have finacial members and meet their criteria before approaching the CMC and lobby to become a member. Most clubs have delegates to these councils. The MCC have delegates with CMC, All British Assosiation , CAMS it is a long and drawn out process which is why its better to take advantage of an existing club. Steve |

micky theres nothing wrong with slow minis, my mini is probably the slowest they can get ( = steve to be honest i dont really understand all the jargon about affiliating and meeting criteria and merging clubs can you tell us what to do: eg. vote/poll who will be president/treasurer/etc, go here, do that, pay for this, and wait. |

i'll have to put the 850 engine back in to be fair. and make sure i have fixed all the electrical gremlins, it would be embarrasing to stop dead on the track again. And if you get Mikey to bring Queenie we can have a 3 way tussle for 850 glory ![]() Kazjim, i don't think the RTA needs to be involved in making a club formal. You don't need to go through all the headaches of dealing with that side of things, because you don't want to have MDC running its own conditional registration scheme. That is the reason for the MCCNSW (among many others) affiliation with the CMC, as the CMC is the recognised body that the RTA deals with. If you want to formalise MDC as a 'social' club that organises trips to 'social' events, where the means of getting there involves driving cars, perhaps together in a group, ![]() ![]() to sum up then - make it a social 'club' for cruises and your there i reckon. consult a lawyer for liability advice, any on here? michael |

hmmmm think less enjoy more good plan... so you got keys? you got petrol?? whats to think about just drive.. life would be great if it was that simple. its the sueing laws that kill all the fun sueing= liability=insurance= beaurocrats (and bad spelling)= red tape and bull faeces.. if you were to drive on these historic plates in a bunch of minis would any cops even question if the run was officially recognised by a certain type of club?? for all intent and purpose it would look like a club run. how often do you see 16 minis in a row that isnt an organised run (except bathhurst in the 60"s) |
