i want to get a thermo fan that i can put under the left guard in the wheel well. i was wondering what fan i should get (from the wreckers) that wont compromise my turning circle? i'm going to wire it up to a switch that i can turn on when i want. |

I have heard that AU falcon fans are very slimline, however they may be too big in this instance. Try anything from a Japanese compact! |

AU fans are huge. There are 2 of them. Davies Craig make some really small ones. Ive even seen small ones on Ebay. |

I definitely need one of these. I drove 400ks the other day on a hot day in the country without any problem but 20 minutes in city traffic and the needle is in the red. Do you wire it with a switch to turn on just when you need it? |

Wiring it with a switch is the easiest way to do it. But you can also get a temperature sensor to automatically turn it on when the car gets hot. Doing it that way means you could leave it on constant power to let the fan cool the radiator down after you've turned the car off. Other options to improve cooling is to improve the effective capacity of the radiator by fitting a heater core behind the grille. I've also seen motorcycle radiators adapted and used like this, looks very neat. |

Some people buy the Rover ones that are temperature activated and just let it do its thing by itself. Some people find it easier just to wire it up to a switch and only turn it on when they need it. Whatever takes your fancy. If you go the Rover way you will need a special bottom hose (I think?) for the sender to go in - so its up to you how big of a job it will be. |

Heater core sounds good too because in summer last year I had to put the heater on full to keep the temperature down. It worked but it was bloody hot in the car! Think I'll keep it simple and have an on / off switch for the fan and look at a heater core on the front if it still gets hot. Thanks for your help. |

Perhaps you should identify wat is causing it to overheat. I dont run a thermo and it gets bloody hot up here in Cairns. Mite be easier to fix the fault rather then trying to fit a thermo. Could be cheaper to... |

Yeah, will check that option first. It has a new water pump and an alloy radiator so i'm not sure what is going on but it is only sitting in stationary city traffic on hot days for prolonged periods. The rest of the year and on country roads its fine. |

Check your thermostat, it could cause the problems you're experiencing. Especially if it hasn't got one.

I put a 82 deg i think in mine... geez cant remember exactly. Was one step colder then what the book says. When was the last time you check your points and timing? |

i got mine from a corrola, it had a front mount rad with 2 fans, was around the mid to late 80s mark, i got it to fit between the radiator and the part of the gaurd that has the holes cut through it, makes a big difference when revving the crap out of her |
