The Mini Clubman was produced from 1971 to 1978. It's the only Mini that matters.... They came in standard form, S, SS, GT, and LS.....from 998cc to 1275cc. They are the more appealing square front Mini's, in case you didn't know. :D

What you are looking for is a roundnose mini, not what Anton/JAM is saying...you will try mate but Coop already knows what he wants

The car in the picture looks like a modded Deluxe. My guess would be about '66 - 68. Looks to have cooper s running gear (brake servo, twin SU carbs) but still has the deluxe bumper.

go to www.miniclub.com.au and look in the
gallery section lots of different minis there
and you will see the difference straight away,
a gt clubman has similar hp to a cooper s but after that
the closest thing to a quick clubman. the 1275 LS
but had lower compression stuff and not a performance
model!!

you're in melbourne, so I suggest you wonder in to Northern Mini Parts in Northern Rd, in Heidelberg - www.miniparts.com.au. They've usually got a bunch of different minis out the front of their workshop and you can look at them in the flesh, talk to them about engine options etc.. The website for the Vic Mini club, based out of melbourne is www.mini.org.au.

You've said you want a MK 2 Cooper S engine, you might have heard that Cooper S's were the fastest things on 4 wheels, and they are, but you pay an insane premium for anything that has the "Cooper" name attached to it. A bare Cooper S motor that needs to be reconditioned can cost in excess of $1300, compare that to the same capacity motor, imported from england or japan with a gearbox in running condition for about the same money.... the biggest 'standard' mini motor is 1275cc - that's what you're after. All english manufactured minis after 1991 (ish) were 1275 and a lot are coming in to the country now and make for a cheap upgrade.

basically coop you've got ur roundnose 1959 (UK) 1960 (AUS) - 1970.
they're better looking have a bit smaller engine bay i think shorter by 2 inches or something. they have much more curves and apeal to most people as the better looking mini.

then coop u have ur clubman which is from 1971-1978 and is a different looking mini, no cooper s or cooper, but GT and 1275 LS etc.

let's recap shall we.
the roundnoses look something like this:

compared to the clubman which looks like this:
