Just leave em out if using the woven pot scourer. No way they will fall out.

Anyone dissected a breather canister on the transfer case? Just cleaned up and painted mine and decided to remove the solid lump of iron filings that looks like it had been a steel pot scourer. I'll replace it with a stainless steel one that should last a bit longer. In the process I removed what appears to one of two bent wire spacers. The one still inside at the top of the canister has a zig zag bit across the body and at least one leg that goes to the top and so preventing the filter material being forced all the way to the top. The one I pulled out was rusted and disintergrated on removal. What is left looks like the one still inside but appears to have had two legs which would hold the filter material in the middle third of the cannister. Can anyone confirm this? and is it necessary to hold the 'pot scourer' in place? |
