g'day everyone! just wondering if anyone can advise on their experiences mounting an oil cooler in a clubman? currently i am thinking of mounting it by coming off the subframe which would have it behind the openings in the apron (as long as i get a slim number plate when i finally get it registered it should get reasonable air flow!!) A few things i have read seem to suggest mounting it behind the grill on the surround, but i am just not sure about that... just wondering if there are any other suggestions? pictures of locations and mounts used would be brilliant if possible! |

Mounting it off the subframe with the air flow from under the number plate works. But there's little point going for a 16 row, better to go for a longer one with less rows IMHO. |

I mounted mine off the bottom surface of the grill opening a la Cooper S, BUT, this involved bending and cutting off the rolled lip for the section where the cooler sits - not a problem for me, but could be if you're going for originality. So mine sits in a similar position to a cooper S except that this is higher up on the clubman. I bought the bling stainless mesh clubman hoses (which are now arguably slightly too long for the application). KB |

Thanks all for your replies! I think i will head the direction of the subframe - but not because i am going for the original look at all! just feel like it would be more secure from the subframe! drmini - do you just bolt them straight to the subframe or use brackets to hold it off the subframe? currently i am thinking of some sort of bracket that comes from the underside of the subframe and holds the cooler just out in front of the subframe... |

when I bought my oil cooler from Karcraft it either came with a bracket kit, or I bought a bracket kit (can't remember which although I think it came with it). Poeee - my minis down under book (P72) shows a GT with the oil cooler visible behind the numberplate (on a similar angle to the front valance), so brackets off the subframe must have been how. KB |

Guys, you got me thinking... have found this site:- http://www.clubmangt.com.au/html/engine.html appears that the GT had some mounts coming off the valance to mount the oil cooler and also extra space between the subframe and valance to accomodate the oil cooler. KB - with the oil cooler i have some flat pieces of steel with assorted holes in it which appear to be the mounting brackets, is that the same as what you mentioned? |
