Post subject:  Suspension Raising

I need to raise the front suspension of my mini to fit
my 12 inch wheels. I've been told it can be shimied up
and so forth. Is it better and worth it to just spend the
extra money and buy Hilos.

If you only want to make a one time adjustment, shims between the knuckle and strut are easy and cheap.

5:1 shim to suspension height change for the front ...I think....right???

Cheers, Ian

Exactly - id rather spend $80 and screw around with rubber cones top arms, knuckle joints, radiators once and be done with it. - While your there replace whats worn..

Not forgetting it all could be slightly out...and a 1/8 of a turn is all it needs

I am going to use shims to raise it. Just wondering would it be possible for someone to measure the distance from the ground to the top of their front wheel arch (without flares) on a roundnose which has 12inch wheels fitted. Just so I can get an idea how high it needs to go.

I may be missing something here, but something is already wrong with the car if it has rubber cone suspension, and if the standard rubber cone and trumpet is in place. There should be no modifications necessary to fit 12" wheels unless they are over 6" wide and have enormous outward offset.

the trumpet has either been shortened, or more likely, the rubber cones are knackered and should be replaced.
