what was the first body no. for english 850 when they started production in england. I am trying to identify a english made 850 to establish approximate year it was made.

If you have an english mini you can order a heritage certificate from Gaydon and they'll tell you what day it was made on, not just the year.

Mine looks like this:

Yeah, we Aussies have never been much good at record keeping, and then when the whole thing turned to custard no-one would have given a stuff about any records that had been kept. There might even have been reasons to get rid of some of them (don't want the filthy competition findin stuff out).

Even the British records aren't perfect, they don't have a full set of Mini details after '69, but at least some of the info is available.

I was talking to a POME a while back and he seriously thought that my car was a private import from the UK. He didn't think that mini's were ever made in Aus!

haha im from england and i dont why people call us that, cause i was talking a teacher at my old school who is a doctor as well and he said that "pom" stands for prisoner of the motherland. so wouldnt that make most aussies part pom as having part convict blood considering half the 1st settlers were convicts and then later released?

Body numbers on 850s started at 101 - but its not the same as a chassis number (which also started at 101).

If you post it here or PM me I'll be able to give you a guide date for it.

The "Prisoner of Motherland" or "Prisoner of mother England" stuff is dead wrong. Most likely story is simple rhyming slang, "pomegranate" for "immigrant" with pomegranate soon shortened to pommy.
