Any one know if there is anyone capable of tuning an EFI mini somewhere in Melbourne, properly.

I have tried Linx, they are capable but mostly its guess work with EFI.

I strongly suggest that you call Brickworx.

He has all that is required to fit'n'fiddle with these.

why does it need a tune already?

Not much go wrong with these just normal tuning like spark plugs/air filter/fuel filter. So most workshops should be able to do this with no problem but one thing to point with the garage is get them to look at the vaccum hose that runs from the intake manifold to the ecm. Check this has no splits in it this can cause major fueling problems mostly at idle with running too rich

Yes the SPi system is very robust and very rarely breaks down

True that 90% of the problems are air leaks in the MAP sensor line caused by split rubber joiners

Unfortunately the MEMS unit "remembers" problems and can take a l-o-n-g time to "learn" that it has been repaired and run at peak again - but if you can reset the system using a box like Steve's, then it runs like new again straight away,

I have investigated the cost of buying my own device to do some re-tuning, both here and in pommy land. I have come to the conclusion that it will be better to uprate the unit.
The one I was looking at came with it's own adjusting floggle toggle, just need to borrow me daughters lap-top.
Uprating it also means it can handle more, :) the original unit won't cope with anything more than minor tweaks to the system.

Yes you can remove the rover ecm and loom and replace with a new after market ecm with units such as Microtech/Ems/Wolf/ or the more up market motec as used in the V8 super cars/or autronic ecm which are all ozzy made or even the Kiwi made link G3. These systems are now all pc based tuneable. The only thing to look for with these systems is the idle control this can sometimes be hard to get right. I know the link G3 idle control is good now the older link units use to tick me off setting them up. I havent played with any ozzy built units lately but im sure they would be as good as the link if not better

What he said. Mine idles like a Biatch. I'm pretty sure one of the hoses has a leak or a poor seal as it has inconsistent idle. ? You could always ditch the EFI and get a carb (as was written as a how to in one of the UK mags a couple of months ago). Of course this would be illegal as you would ditch most of the pollution gear, as would be removing the catalytic converter and fitting a straight through pipe, but you would get more horses.

Sound like mine when I got it, get all those Vacuum bits sorted and it'll run great. When I got mine fixed it halved the fuel it was using.

Running rich for quite a while stuffed the oxygen sensor too, now its all fixed (thanks Pete and Al at Minicentral) its 100% smooth, reliable anda little quicker (looks for wood to touch).
