Hi folks Loving my mk2 cooper s. It has a banging/knocking noise when I lift my foot off the accelerator. Feels and sounds like it is coming from around the feet area in the middle of the car. I have had the exhasut checked and tightened, nothing rubbing there. Have had engine mounts checked and they are fine. It doesnt do it every time and discovered today it goes away when the clutch is pressed or as soon as you accelerate again. It isnt a major annoyance but can be quite loud at times. Any ideas what else it could be causing it? cheers Jason |

i'd be checkin the gear sellector rubber at the back of the remote change housing. If it feels like its coming thru the floor when its knocking and only does it when engine isnt under acceleration... I'd start there if u havent looked already. Cheap options first.

are these rubbers easily accessible or is it a hoist job? Not that I have a clue what im looking for but will take it to either a man with or without a hoist depending on access. |

Easier on a hoist but with jacks and stands or ramps you should be able to replace it without too many dramas. Firstly, take out the gear stick and just undo the four 3/8 bolts at the front of the extension housing leaving one in finger tight. Then undo the rear 3/8 nut on the mount. Then once the nut is off, take out the bolt and it should slide out pretty easily. While your there you may aswell clean and lubricate the internal parts aswell. Matt |

it's easier to drop the bracket off the back of it..... as long as you've got long arms or a helper

I would also check your driveshaft couplings while you are there
