Help, the bonnet on my Morris is stuck closed.

Are there any tricks for getting it open again? (preferably not a BFH). It appears I've lost the spring that holds the bonnet catch somewhere along the way.

Reason I ask is I have developed a nasty fuel leak I suspect is from the fuel pump and I want to get it fixed before big day out.

hey,

you should be able to get a flat tip and push the spring / stick up. shouldn't be too difficult. its kinda hard to explain.

basically move the stick out and up, it only sits on a small part of the catch.

i'm assuming you mean its completely shut at the moment? Not that you've released it and now you can't unhook the bonnet on the right?

cheers,

meehal.

Take the grille off and poke around from underneath.
Undo the catch if need be.

Come to think of it, I have to do that every time I open it...

Push down and slightly inwards on the bonnet, pull the release across, and let it go quickly.

Tried this:

, but ran out of time as I had to go to work.

I also tried this

as I have had to do this on the Rover in the past. I think the problem is that I have lost the spring that holds the release catch in place. I'll give it a try when I get home. Man I hope I can fix it before the Big day out.

If the spring is missing it should be easier, rather than harder to open.

i had to do this on my morris when it didnt have the spring to spring the bonnet up, id pull the latch over about 3/4 the way and then with my other hand push the stick upwards and after a few goes it would open.....this got very annoying especially when one day the bonnet opened whilst driving and bent it back, panel beaters put a spring on the stick to fix this problem, only had to release the catch and it would pop open like a normal bonnet then.

Woohoo fixed the bonnet, many thanks to SGC who gave me a hand, all I have to do now is fix the fuel leak by Sunday then I'm still good for BDO, provided it doesn't rain (still no wipers  ).
