well unfortunately tiny's rego has run out and ive run out of cash to pay for it atm, but to make matters worse tiny's rust problem has gotten worse and will not pass pink slip :( the 1 option is to sand the rust back and bog it for now to get the pink slip or leave it without rego.

the other problem i have is that im short of money to get it properly fixed, so now since i havent got the money i was thinking of selling him :( as much as i dont want but that may be my only option.

juz want ppls opinion in what i should do, whether its worth keeping tiny in the garage for a while till i have enough money to fix the rust issue, or to sell him.

and serious opinions not just crap please

Keep the Mini....

Let the rego run out if you have to....

get a job closer to where you live or move closer to where you work

Yes!

Seriously, I would fix the car - after all, its only rust, and rust can be repaired!

Cheers,

i got my mechanic to pass the celica with not engine or box in it, you should be able to find a mechanic to pass it, say to them that it needs fixing get him to pass it and also get a quote off him to show him the oppotunity for more business,he will see it as a project and it wont be on the road, dont let it slip other wise you will be in the same crap i am about to go through(i have been saying going for rego next week for nearly 4 months :? ),

someone on here will do it for you or will show you how to weld, right guys....... theres no enthusiam smiley

Argh no money. I'm in the same boat. Moved house a month ago and am currently out of work for 2 weeks leading into xmas. I'm living on the tightest budget and my clutch hydraulics decide to give up today.

Do what i'm doing. park the thing out of sight (at the very end of the driveway) till you've got enough money to do what needs to be done properly (in my case new mc i think).

Obviously you'll need to do a bit more saving then me, but it'll be worth it in the end.

Man you come up with some good ones...... Why own a car if you cant afford it? You knew the rego would be due one day..... Save for it.

Otherwise, you have a fulltime job. Go and get a credit card or a small personal loan. Fix the car, get it rego'd and learn to save. Otherwise, dont own a car buy a pushbike or a scooter.

Don't let it run out of rego, it will be harder to get it re-rego'd later as they look harder when a car was previously unregistered. It will be easier to get her past rego now than later when she's been off the road for some time.

Just get off your ass and fix the rust with bog. Later in life when you got for dosh you can cut the bog out and do a good job of it.

Minis are great but I won't lie to you, they are a money pit and they need hard work to maintain...

Can of bog $10, sandpaper $0.50, can of primer $2, everlasting mini happiness PRICELESS! :D

Absolute last alternative should be to sell it , if it's unroadworthy and unregistered you'll get a pathetic amount for it and lose out , better to do a quick fix now (where is the rust and how bad , is it structural or cosmetic ?) , either with bog if it's cosmetic or find someone here who'll weld a patch on if you do all the prep and finish work (you take tiny to them , grind the rust off and clean the area to bare metal for them to repair) if it's structural . What else needs repairing on him for rego ? If all else fails and you have somewhere dry to store him then just lock him up till yoiu have the experience and skills to fix it properly otherwise it'll be another of those "I wish I never sold that car" stories . Mine have been locked away in sheds several times so far when I didn't have time to play with them .

i had one young P plater in hurstville that wanted to buy my mini so he could strip it down, put a v8 in it and turn it into a convertible

Don't forget that option ;)

Seriously, do what you need to get your pink slip, dodgily if you have to. Then put the car away until you can afford to pay the rego. Sell it and you'll regret it, not to mention lose $$$.

Not what I'd consider the smart option -- that would be to spend less money.
