Hi Guys,

Just about to get some new tyres and a wheel alignment done on my K. What do you think are the best tyres available in 10'?

Also, I have adjustable caster rods, rose-jointed bottom arms, tracking and camber rear brackets and the whole car has Hi-Lo's. What height, camber, toe-in(out), caster should I be running to get the best handling car I can???

I really suggest you take your car to John Leffler at St George Steering at Belmore. Number is in the telephone book or online with whitepages.com.au.

Leffo is one of Australia's mini racing legends and a suspension expert. He wont charge you a fortune and the job will be properly done.

The reason I suggest that is because there is a myriad of possible combinations that are affected by ride height, etc etc etc. You really want someone who knows what they are doing to set up the angles correctly.

Its the difference between a good handling car theat is easy to drive and a pig of a thing.

As far as I know they are not legal, not because of the rose joint, but because of the adjustability of the bottom arms.

Thats not to say that engineers and the rta will not frown upon the rose joints, but i dont believe there is anything in the rule book strictly against them...

I have rose jointed gear on my skyline and it isn't is a problem

The humour part: A duck walks into a bar and asks for a drink, the barman asks how will you pay for it? The duck replies "put it on the bill!"

The suspension question: Most people will tell you, modifying suspension to obtain optimum handling will produce a sharp go-kart like ride at the expense of comfort. They are almost mutually exclusive.
I had my suspension set up by John at St George - I don't have my settings handy.

The life reflection part: In my younger days I used to drive around in road registered race cars with 3000lb springs etc (non mini's obviously) that would jar your fillings out on every bump, leave your ears ringing from the exhaust, and required you to dump the clutch at 5000rpm just to take off at the lights.

hey Thomas, in regards to the tyres, i think $125, you should have a look at the link provided at the top, it has a lot of information on all the tyres available. i personally would buy the dunlops, but thats because i want to race my mini, its up to you.

I've got Adjustable Bottom arms, tie rods on the front and hilos in the rear.

Wheel are 5 and a bit inch widened 10inch steelies with Bridgestone rubber.

When i went from the stock setup to the wider wheels, driving went from fun to fantastic, adding the adjustable arms mad everything feel so much more precise, the steering was lighter and the grip was brilliant.

even with standard height and old ish rubber cones in the front

as for the settings, it's different from car to car and driver to driver..

I good rule of thumb is as per the workshop manual and then give it a degree of negative camber.
