Post subject: | 997 Cooper trim colours |
Hi All, Looking for some help in regards to the correct interior trim colour for my 1963 Smoke Grey/White roof Mini Cooper. What colour should the door cards, seats & carpet, plus dash surround be? An assistance would be appreciated. |

Probably red trim, seats, doorcards were hessian backed cheaper (rough vinyl like the 850) I have some pics if you need to know more? Check with Brickworks, they just sold a 997? |

Hi Graham...I'm fairly sure thats what Ians 1071 was....because I remember remarking...who chose those colours?? were they getting rid of old stock?? was there a blackout on when they put the car together? ![]() Well...it weren't red...two tone grey upholstery and some cheapish light gray carpet not the good quality Wilton found in later Minis. If anyone is interested, just ask Ian (1071) nicely for some pictures of the carpet because he says there is still some left in his 1071 S. |

Interior was red reasonable quality vinyl. Rear door cards same. Front door trim like Graham said. Carpet was loop pile grey with white flecks. I still have a small piece from a Cooper of the same colour combination along with some original trim. A 1071S was imported and would have had different trim to the Australian built Cooper. Hope this helps. |

Hope this helps. "The correct interior trim colour for my 1963 Smoke Grey/White roof Mini Cooper" - so would have been imported...yes? (maybe CKD, but imported) |

I purchased a 997 Cooper new in 1963 It was Smoke Grey with a White roof The interior trim was as wild_willy described The vinyl was Aussie made (soft touch) and similar to that used in the Deluxe later (same pattern with the roll at the front) |

I wonder if this was an early attempt to raise the Aussie content by fitting locally trimmed seats ![]() [thinks: I know just the fella to ask ![]() |

Thanks for all the help & info. My 63 997 does have very tired Red seats (amazing colour combo for a grey Mini. I thought they may have been added from another Mini later in life). Door cards are missing but still have rear 1/4 cards in place. Should they be plain vinyl? I have seen other Coopers with horizontal ribbed door & 1/4 cards. As for the carpet, it is grey & may also be the correct colour?. Chris. |

Dear Mick, Modern Motor of Jan 1963 states ''now that Morris 850's are pouring out of the Sydney factory at a rate of 16,000 a year, they [BMC] feel they can afford to slip a few Mini Coopers through the assembly lines without upsetting the delivery schedules of 850's.'' These were as you thought, 997cc engined. This is a surprise to me. Cheers Unquote |

OK further confirmation that English imports were two-tone Gray interiors, a friend has described his 1071 S (full import) as Smoke Gray/White Roof and two-tone Gray interior. ![]() ![]() |

[quote="9YaTaH"]OK further confirmation that English imports were two-tone Gray interiors, a friend has described his 1071 S (full import) as Smoke Gray/White Roof and two-tone Gray interior. Thanks again for the info, very useful. Newton Commercial in the UK also confirmed this & have the appropriate trim if required. Also very interesting read in The Mini Experience this month regarding Imported, CKD & Local Mini Cooper builds. It is possible mine could have come out with a red interior as std. Mmmm! Kind of like the UK trim to be honest! |
