ausmini :: View topic - What's it worth? Carsales Mini K

I think its worth it. A restored mini is a restored car. meaning it's not as rolled of the factory and is not original, ( Like my S new paint, interior, rebuilt motor) I classify that as not original.
My 1 owner 1974 Leyland on the other hand I classify is totally original 45,000km from new always garaged and looks as good as my S but it has a certain charm about it that my S doen't have--- FACTORY ORIGINAL--- as it rolled of the factory line all the litle bits that restorers miss, such as the foam in the corners of the fire wall, stickers on wire looms etc....

I got mine for $3500 the owner didn't really know the value and my mate thought oh what has he bought but after a month of cleaning, degreasing and the car looking very close to showroom condition, He is very envious, can't wait for MINI MUSTER 08 to show it off

So yes it;s worth it. Buy it.

Hi All, No doubt you have all seen the 46000 mile Mini K on carsales for $9500. Just wondering what the general opinion is, as to what this car is really worth on todays market. I don't think the price is over the top. Personally I would want 1275, discs for $9500. However the car is in very good original condition, so to a collector the price is probably fair. If you like it, and feel it's worth it to you, then it is, if not, then don't bother. Simple as that.

Look at it this way how many original cars like that are out there these days? It is worth as much as a prospective buyer is willing to pay for it, its just the market these days with older cars. To me yes the price is worth it and it could possibly sell for more if someone was waiting for a car of that description ( rare) instead of a bitsa for $5000. To some its overpriced to what you would pay for a clean modified K.

It's sad but how many other "showroom condition" mini K's do you know of? I know of perhaps 1 or 2, and I can tell you that the owners have spent well over $9500 in restoration alone, let alone the price of the original car, and some would argue that they are still not 100% original. Yes, if you are buying to rip out the engine and throw in a 4EFTE it's overpriced No, if you were looking for a collectors item to show and shine, this is not a bad price. Sure it's missing a 1275 and discs, but then it wouldn't be 100% original, AND If it did have a 1275 and discs and was original, you'd be looking at double that price. Lets face it, it aint exactly a bang around town mini with rust holes... it's a show piece

I think this is a very reasonable priced mini. I am a fan of the original so called 'period' look. When you do some quick maths: A reasonable project car would be about $2000-$3000 for something half decent with minimal amount of rust, Then $3000 for cutting out that rust and putting some paint down, Then $800 for a new interior, Then odds and ends to complete it off ebay and from other shops $1000 or so. So that's already $7000 odd, plus the time it takes do do all the work, which appears to be an average of 1-2 years for most people. So $8000-9000 is a fair price to me.

From my experiences with purchasing Mini's and watching the market. A Mini is usually worth half what it costs to build. Unless of course it's a very rare and desireable model. To me a Mini K is not a rare and desireable model. I simply consider it a roundnose Mini. And see it value based upon that. Also I believe you should be able to sell a car in parts for more than the value of it complete. Other's may disagree on that statement, but parts value is how I view second hand Mini's. Alothugh this being very original doesn't fit very much i nthe parts section more in the cost of build section. In the end it depends what you want from a car which determines how much you feel it's worth.

I reckon if you want a modified car - there are plenty out there you can snap up for nix just coz they have been chopped around so much. Original cars, now they like hens teeth, and worth every penny. Like I say - its cheap.

Question: If there was a Mk2 Cooper S with that history like the 'K' mentioned, would it be worth more than an clean restored version.
