There was a vintage rally (for old farm machinery and stuff) today at the Geelong show grounds, and my fathers car club had about a dozen cars there. My father got his Austin A40 out to take along (god knows the last time that thing has been driven, hehe) and I took my van along. Ya gotta love it, my not so shiney with a little rust van had more people looking at it and taking photo's than the bright and shiney E type jag. It's got the groove, baby! ![]() ![]() |

There were 2, yes. The Devon and the Somerset. My father has the Devon, in fact he has 2, a Sedan and a Tourer (which is being restored at the moment). The Devon was the first one, designed pre-BMC merger. Both are 1950 and are the GS2 variety. After the BMC merge, they got a column shift, and that was known as the GS3. Sumerset's were the same mechanicals on the same chassis (i'm pretty sure), but with a different body. They come after the BMC merge. Pictures soon... |

When I was but a lad, my uncle had an A40 Somerset, and my dad had a 1948 Morris 10 (1250cc, was similar to MGTC donk but single SU).. They used to race one another on the road (you could get away with it, then..)- the Morris 10 was faster (slightly!) ![]() So they were petrol then heads too.. nothing's changed much, LOL. |

Here's something you'll be interested in, doc. My father has set of twin Zeneth carbs for an A40 on a Monaro Motors manfold. Quite rare I would say. They would be on one of his cars, but we can't get sports air filters to fit the Zeneths! |

Morris 10 was OHV, .XPAG type. Think MG TC-TD-TF1250.. ![]() Not a side basher.. ![]() Some side bashers were good. My neighbour had a 1946 Hudson Commodore straight 8, 3 on the tree with O/D on 2 & 3. It flew... ![]() And who can remember the side valve `Q Dodge' 6 cylinder- one of the most torquey sixes ever. Chrysler were still selling it for industrial purposes in 1972- Rheem considered it for use in concrete transit mixers! Great boat motor. ![]() |

I was in a mates wrecking yard today (he is out in the country) and he has two Austin A40s in stock. One is a Ute that was being restored and was nearly finished when a tree fell on it which stuffed the body. The chassis and running gear are restored and are OK. The other car is a soft top ute! And it has a good body and it just needs restoring. He also has two Austin A90 Atlantics ![]() If anyone knows someone that needs an A40 or an A90 Atlantic pass the word. |

The Austins are located in the Central West of NSW. I will be talking to the owner of the yard during the week and I will try to get some pics of them. He also has a Morris Major in great condition, it is a one owner car that has never been out of town! How about a Hillman Imp? He has a good looking Imp as well. |
