Image
Estimate:£30000 - 40000
Mileage:N/A
Colour: RED/WHITE
Trim Colour:BLACK
Chassis No: CA2S7/1012033A
Engine No:
Registration No:OBL 45F
CC:1293
M.O.T:NONE

Prepared by the Competitions Department at Abingdon, 'OBL 45F' was initially intended to take part in BMC's International Rallying programme. However, the increasing dominance on forest, tarmac, gravel and snow stages of designs such as the Porsche 911 and Alpine 110 etc meant that this Mini began and ended its Works career as a circuit racer.

Competition Career:

March 1969 Brands Hatch International Meeting - John Handley

One of two Works entries for the event, 'OBL 45F' crashed out (as did the sister car piloted by John Rhodes).

September 1969 Tour de France - Paddy Hopkirk / Tony Nash

Suitably rebuilt and fitted with a new 8-port Lucas fuel-injected engine for the event (it had used a 5-port twin Weber carburettor fed unit at Brands Hatch), 'OBL 45F' finished 1st in class and 14th overall.

Private Ownership:

1969/1970

'OBL 45F' was sold into the private sector when the Competitions Department was wound up. A regular on the English Club Rally Circuit thereafter (during which time it sported a Clubman bonnet and Amal carburettors), the Mini has since been restored to Brands Hatch 1969 specification - a process which reportedly took some twenty-five years!

Estimate:£40000 - 50000
Mileage:65956 KM
Colour: RED/WHITE
Trim Colour:SILVER/SEABULL
Chassis No: 1095945A
Engine No:9F-SA-Y32443
Registration No:CRX 90B
CC:1293
M.O.T:JUNE 2008

Prepared for International Rallying by the BMC Competitions Department at Abingdon, 'CRX 90B' was the prototype 'wet car' (meaning that it used Hydrolastic suspension).

Competition Career:

1964 RAC Rally - Paddy Hopkirk / Henry Liddon

One of four Works entries for the event, 'CRX 90B' succumbed to the same transmission failure that claimed its three stablemates.

1965 Monte Carlo Rally - Don Morley / Erle Morley

One of six Works entries for the event, 'CRX 90B' finished 27th overall and 2nd in class with the Mini of Paddy Hopkirk / Henry Liddon crossing the finish line just one place ahead.

1965 Munich-Vienna-Budapest Rally - George Halliwell / Paul Easter

One of three Works entries for the event, 'CRX 90B' retired due to accident damage.

1966 - Recce Car

Rebuilt by the Works, 'CRX 90B' acted as a recce car throughout the 1966 season.

1967 - Test Car

Used by the Works as a test car for new components etc.

Private Ownership:

1968
'CRX 90B' was bought from BMC by Paul Easter and had no less than eight keepers over the next ten years.

1978
'CRX 90B' entered the current ownership. Forlorn and neglected, the Mini was subsequently restored to its former glory.

1982
'CRX 90B' finished 2nd overall to Paddy Hopkirk aboard 'AJB 44B' in the RAC Golden 50 Rally.

Today
Described by the vendor as being in excellent overall condition, this ex-Works Mini is potentially eligible for a host of prestigious events.

I'd tip CRX90B to go for around 80,000 pounds easy. You simply can't buy these every day.

If i had a spare few million $ and was tired of buying a new porsche every year, what else is there to do? :D :D And in that case, what is the difference between 40K and 80K?

(I want it and I want it now.... yes Veruca!)

Which auction house are they going through?

Stupid money? Compared to $750,000 for a GTHO with no competition history whatsoever? Assuming that they are in fact the original shells (or at least haven't been reshelled since leaving the BMC competition department) the money asked doesn't seem too outrageous.

What

The last GTHO that I know of that went up for sale, sold for $189,000. And that was in April this year.

last I heard the record was $450K... but that was a year ago now

I've been told about GTHO's that are sitting in sheds with 20,000 miles on them, and their owners rubbing their hands together

There have been two Phase 3s that have fetched over $650,000 that I know of. There was another sold a couple of weeks back that was tipped to go for $1,000,000 but I have not heard the result.

I remember a mate selling his for $18,000 and he thought he had stung the bloke good!

Thats just a stupid comment. These are not Bugatti 35s but for competition cars with provenance especialy crx-90b this is an underestimate. They will only go up in price.

No matter the make, competition cars, especially the ones with significant history, will always be a sound investment.

Well worth the estimated auction price.
