Post subject:  how much for SU 1 1/2?

i just got contacted by the people having a look at my dellorto carburettor, and theyve told me that i may need a new manifold, and that the accelerator pump as well as some other parts are F***ed

they just gave me an alternative to get a 1 1/2 SU carby put on to it

just curious as to what theyed probably go for??
cause i dont want to get screwed for price
also i dont know of condition etc just "a 1 1/2 SU carby"

cheers

I give them away.
:D

1.75 go for maybe $100?

1.5 would be less, unless its the opposite one from a twin setup.

I gave one and a manifold away last time (very recently) , probably have another here somewhere but no manifold . I've seen brickworx have them on ebay with manifold for $80 (I think) so use that as a guide , I wouldn't pay much over $100 for carb and manifold unless it was a good manifold (alloy) and/or the carb was rebuilt on a standard manifold . What are they asking and what is it ? Make sure you get the dellorto and manifold back from them too .

Was your engine tuned to a delloto? If so a 1 1/2 HS4 may not do the job. you maybe better to go to a 1 3/4 HS6 or HIF 44

What engine is it going on?

1.5" SU is a good upgrade for a small block. Adequate for a standard 1275.

Also, Dellortos are well built carbs and should be able to be rebuilt.

If it's on a small capacity engine it's probably overkill and SU would be better.

I would buy a decent Dellorto book, and source my parts from www.dellorto.co.uk like I do.
Best Dellorto book I've seen is "How to build and power tune Weber and Dellorto carburetors", by Des Hammill. It's a seriously good read, with info and jetting on A and B series series motors too. Mine cost me $40 a few years ago.

the people are legit, most of the sunny coast guys would know which one im going to (the only mini specialist round here)

since ive only had the mini a short time, this is the first time ive had to deal with them but all the other people ive had a chat to about them, have had nothing but good things to say about them.....so yes i do trust them

btw it was not said that the dellorto was completely screwed, but it was mentioned as a more affordable option to perhaps get a 1 1/2" SU carby
and he said he would get a quote for the carby for me and then i could make a decision about it...

still havent had a phonecall yet but either way i think atm i might see what i get quoted for an SU, then i got 2 options

1) if its an affordable option, take the SU (and the dellorto) and just get mobile again for the minute and fix up the dellorto when the budget allows
2) take the car away, and then try repairs myself (with the dellorto book)

edit: also another option is get my own carby/s myself (for sale thread) etc
