Post subject:  Cooper S fan spacer?

Did Cooper S's come with a fan spacer standard or was the plastic fan just bolted up to the pulley. Engine has the large 2 piece S crank damper and when the fan is bolted up to the pulley, is very close to the crank damper  If they did come with a spacer, how thick was it?

yep, should have a spacer, about 1/4" thick - I put 2 of them on my dad's car

make sure you put the fan on the right way too - it's marked on it ;)

i assume this improves the cooling?
by moving the fan closer to the rad?

Simon k not all plastic fans have the markings you are talking about    ( i have found, especially the new ones).....best way to tell is by the metal inserts in the fans mounting holes....1 side has a large surface area (like a washer and it also sticks out about 2-3mm from the plastic) which is where the mounting bolt heads and split washers should mount too, the other side has a smaller face on the insert and is flush with the plastic of the fan this side goes to the spacer/pulley. :D

I'm running a bit hot lately (ok it is 34 degrees today) but I was wondering if this fan is set up correctly ...

... from the point of view of the engine the fan is spinning anti clockwise.

That should be right. It should blow through the radiator.

Erm correct me if I'm wrong but I thought Cooper S's came with the 16 blade metal fans and not the plastic ones?
