Get the biggest, orneryest one you can find, mine is an Exide 550CCA in both Minis. It's out of a petrol landcruiser... 8)

that's true for any car, the biggest battery that will physically fit is the one you want!

There used to be two classifications pretty much for a mini battery. They were either 9 plate or a higher capacity 11 plate. Now there is a fair bit of difference in the CCA (cold cranking amps) output between the cheapies and the more expensive batteries.

I try not to get sucked in by the battery hype and buy the one with the best price for the least dollars with the best CCA rating that I can find. These batteries aren't rocket science, and they will try and sell you up to some grandiose model of lead acid battery with a fancy plastic cover and a built in specific gravity thing-a-ma-bobby which will only tell you what can be simply be done by turning the key...if your battery is flat or not. They will pretty much wear out at the same time as every other battery too.

Watch the negative and positive orientation on the battery, they swap around with each different model of battery, and you may not have a battery lead to reach the post if it is swapped about. I use a 380 CCA rating battery, it will be written on a small sticker somewhere on the battery top, and it works great with a good factory starter.
