What years were the mini.matics produced , and were they all 998's ?

Came out in January 1968, all were 998cc (in Minis- the Morris 1100 got a 1098, then the 1275 auto).
No record when the matics finished but I think sometime in 1971.
Mine was made in March 1970.

<edit> early matics had Mini Deluxe instruments and trim, but from September 1968 they had the so-called Mk2 version, with Mini-K trim.

Some of the UK mini matics had the 850 motor, but good old Aus only got the 998.

Cheers,

Those dates I gave came off Mini Automotive's website, which in turn came from the Mini Minor Downunder book (Pedr Davis).
I guess as released in Jan 68 it could be a late 67 build date.

We had a full feature of the Mini Matic in Issue 9 of The Mini Experience.

First protoypes in Oz were built in mid-1967. five of these were made available to journos in September. Official release was January 1978 (as Doc pointed out) but production would have to have commenced at least a couple of months before that, in order to get stocks to all the distributors in time for the launch.

So, a late 1967 car is possible. It would be interesting to see what the chassis number is.

Cheers, Watto.
