Red light is usually altenator not providing power isn't it?

Check alt belt and the alternator itself.

Although ususally the red light is on the speedo for this (?)

I have two lights on the tacho, the other one is directly opposite. I think the one shown is alternator as you say but the other one is a mystery and I'd like conformation anyway.

the instruments are the ones in my sunshine so should be standard clubbie 's'

there is the two red lights. THe one on the left is alternator, one on the right is oil pressure. I did read somewhere that the standard alternators don't neccessarily charge at idle, so that red light will come on. Mine stays on until she gets a rev. Then it goes out and stays out.

oil pressure makes sense, thanks!
I was having a problem where the oil pressure light was staying on the the key out and the battery going flat, apparently not starting the car for 6 months is the cure as it seems to have fixed itself!

early clubbies had 'Alt' and 'Oil' marked on those lights. For some reason Leyland stopped marking the lights (cost?)
