I'm still running my 998 engine in and one thing that has failed since it has been back on the road is the petrol gauge. (It will be fixed when it goes back for 1st oil change). So I was just heading out for a drive with my wife in the car when the petrol pump started rattling. I figured it was the angle on the hill I was on and knew that the service station is only 2kms down the road. I also thought I couldn't be out of petrol as it had only done a few trips since I filled it up.

I didn't make it to the petrol station and my lovely wife ended up walking back home to get the jerry can and drive it back (I have a sore ankle or I would have gone back) I didn't know the exact reading but I'm pretty sure I only got around 250kms from that tank ( I didn't realise it was that much at the time)

How many kms should i expect to get out of a tank in a 998?

around 250-300 sounds alright to me, depending on driving conditions of course

That's pretty good on a 25L standard tank (which is probably containing only about 23L when full cause you can't really fill it right to the brim without it spilling out). That's around 10L per 100kms or more like 9.2L per 100kms.

If your mini is tip top shape and you drive it like a baby then perhaps you can do better. My 1330 does A LOT worste than that...

I tend to get about a month out of my tank regardless of being a daily driver or being parked in my garage. Don't know why that is??

I would work on around 250K's max with a standard tank. I found with my 998 that running around town I got about 200/220K's.

My warm 1100 does about 6.8l/100km on the highway, but almost certainly 9-ish in the city, although I've not calculated it. 250-300km per tank is pretty normal..

My 1275 gets 10L/100 on my daily routine, without fail.

I don't exactly drive it easy.

Does a little better on fwy, but who cares.

My 1275 rover with inch & 3/4 HIF carby gets 7.28 liters per 100km over the last 7 tanks and I'm a "boy-racer" :P I think I will get a tune up some day soonish.

Wow - when I fill up I can only manage to squeeze in 18L (tops) even when really empty (although not ran out of fuel empty).

I usually get around 200 - 250km from a tank.

The absolute best I have gotten out of my 1100 mini is 420kms on a tank. That was freeway driving sitting on about 80 following the 850 as it was trying to overheat. Long, straight flat boring freeway at 80. I drive it everyday to work, and i get around 260-270kms to a tank. Thats stock standard 1100, just run-in engine, and driving it like a grandma. I think 250 out of a new engine is pretty damn good!

My last three tanks have taken me 254, 288, and 286.8 km's; that's an otherwise standard 1030 (.040 over 998) with a 1.5" SU, driven with spirit. 98 octane fuel.

That gave me 8.3, 8.0 and 8.0 ltrs/100kms respectively (taking into account the amount of fuel added at each fill), which is pretty damn good. A mix of city driving and highway (4km stretch, at ~115km/h), so certainly not a healthy mix for economy.
