Hi,

I'm looking for a retailer in Sydney who sells replacement Lucas 8 TR voltage regulator plugs.

Also looking for Lucas style "Lucar"? electrical (wiring) spade connectors, the ones with the clear flexible plastic covers as fitted in the factory and that come with replacement new wiring harnesses.

I don't want to use those multi coloured connectors sold in Kmart and Supercheap.

Thanks.

If you are just looking for better quality ones try Tricky-Dicky (Dick Smith) or Jaycar - could also try some of the electrical trade warehouses like Middendorf or AWM. If your looking for Lucas specifically for originality, then I would be starting to to Google some English suppliers

Good luck on the 8TR mate, i've been searching for a replacement for a couple of years.
If you do find someone who sells them i'll grab one too

In Sydney try Coventry Automotive - they can get anything from the Hella and Narva catalogues. If after originality try:

http://www.vinwire.com.au/accessories.htm#prim have a 4TR plug in the accesories section - not sure about the 8TR

http://www.britishwiring.com/Comp.htm(US site - very comprehensive but pricey from memory)

http://www.classicwiringlooms.com.au/ rubbish site but call them for what you need.

Oh and didn't the original lucas spades have a brown flexible sleeve (not clear)? Coz they are heaps of non insulated spades with a separate clear insulator available both from Hella and Narva. [/url]

I'm pretty sure the 4TR and 8TR both take the same plug, it's a long flat multi-spade one.
There's one of these in my `matic still, I'm not using it since I upgraded the 15AC alternator to the more reliable Clubby 16ACR one.
I could snip it out if somebody wants it....

The 8TR got superseded to a 4TR, and it may still be available. I bought one through Robbos Spares a few years ago, it's in a green Lucas box.
Lucas p/no on box is NCB148.
I still have this regulator, I think it's still OK. 8)
Chopchop you can take it and try if you want.

Pinout is B+, +, F, -.
Beware there is a Jag one that looks similar but won't work on the Mini plug as pinout is different.

hey Shane, check with Matt Read - I think he said he had a bunch of 8tr regulators, was a while ago though, and my mind is like a steel trap, old, rusty and siezed...

Thanks everybody,

I contacted Paul Vermont at Vintage Wiring Harness www.vinwire.com.au

Purchased heaps of "original" Lucas style fittings plus the 8tr connector.

He put them in a $10 overnight bag and I recieved it today. That's pretty good considering I would have spent at least $10 in petrol driving around Sydney looking for a supplier.

Doubt you'd find a Sydney side supplier for all the original type Lucas paraphenalia. Mentioned Vinwire first coz when I was looking for some stuff awhile back they were the best and most comprehensive Aussie option from memory (they stock all the connectors in large quantities as they use tham in their looms and so the prices are good.

Unless you go to some of the even more comprehensive Brit. and US sites (like www.britishwiring.com with its huge catalogue of original elec. parts) vinwire is your best bet.
