My wife picked me up at the airport in the Moke. As it was approaching I noticed a wobble on the front left wheel. I checked the nuts and the drive shaft nut - all all were well and the hub was secure The wheel had a caster angle that followed the rotation of the wheel. ie the wheel was cantered over at the top initially, as the wheel rotated the wheel cant rotated as well. No problems with the ball joints or upper or lower arms or mountings CV or universal splines? Anyhow we got home slowly - but the handling was off on inspection at home the wheel was back to normal any ideas |

like I said when your wheel fell off on the way home from rego - that car is trying to tell you something - listen hard and listen good and check every single thing before it kills you do things like jack it up and put an axle stand under the bottom suspension arm on either side, put it in gear and let it idle and have a really good look at what's happening, grab each wheel and let it turn slowly as you hold it, etc. etc. (handbrake on, rear wheels chocked, back-end tied to a tree etc. etc.) |

Have a really good look at your wheel , is the center about to part company with the rim and moving around ? Either that or wheel studs doing something odd , hows the drive flange , are the studs pulling through ? |

I don't really understand your description but if the caster is moving that's the front tie bar/control arm (depending on your sexuality/nationality). Is the front nut still on the tie bar?? Is the back end (of the tie bar) still bolted to the lower arm? |

I am going to pull down the front suspension this morning as see what its brings. Thanks for the suggestions - I will let you know what I find.. and I always asks the what-if questions before I inspect to get some alternative ideas. Whilst some of the reponses offer suggestions without judgment others seem to be placing emphasis like by using large font - that doesnt lend it self to anything except appearing condescending - but thanks anyway |

Lower control arm bush was torn up - this allowed the lower control arm to backwards and forwards as the wheel rotated. It was was replaced when the suspension was rebuilt - hmmm Do people use poly ones or the rubbers ones. The other side is showing early signs of this as well. Mind you it has done 500 miles since registration so it probably due for a once over with a spanner. The studs, flange, cvs and uni splines were all fine Thanks everybody - even people that use large fonts ![]() |

I like the rubber ones, mine have been on 11 years and are still good. Many of the poly ones are too hard, they can even bend the stock bars... ![]() Same with the lower arm inner bush- I find the std live rubber/steel bush better than the poly ones which `flow' and go out of shape. |

its the inners that are gone not the tie bar ends- I still am getting used to mini part terminology. So rubbers it is Why would they tear up in such a short time ? |

So rubbers it is Why would they tear up in such a short time ? You cannot compress lurethane into a live joint like rubber- it splits. Lurethane bushes always have grease inside the bore or OD, so they can slip on the pin/stud/bolt/whatever. |

What year model Moke is it? I assume it has the metal insert tapered type lower control arm bushes. If it is an early model with the top hat style bushes, these are pretty average and it would not surprise me if they were eaten up that quickly. So if it is the early type, convert it to the later type. I also assume you didn't put the wrong type of bush in? |
