Hiya all, I have a round nose shell, with plate details YMA 2s4, which makes me think it's an auto. Car number says 2010. It has 1100 manual in it, has had the magic wand hole plated over and a new remote hole cut, but still has two of the retaining holes for the auto shifter. So far, so good – But the only details on the radiator shroud say PA ? or P4, M2 and 82. The windscreen wiper says 10 62, and in the boot, there are right hand tank mountings and rear boot supports riveted in. The wiper holes are towards the middle. Can’t see any numbers on boot lock and starter motor is not original – it now has a 10y engine in it. Has no doors, but catches lead me to believe it had wind ups. I am confused! ![]() ![]() |

It sounds like an early auto one to me.. the giveaway is the auto shifter mounts. None of the manual shells had these on the floor. The auto shifter cable went through an 850 gearlever boot in the magic wand hole, does that plate look like it's been fitted afterwards? <edit> the car number sounds right for a 68 auto, mine is a `70 but has the YA2S5 prefix. They obviously started counting again then because my car number is 1385. ![]() |

thanks doc, yep, the plate is screwed in, welded, then sealed! I am leaning towards an auto too, but what of the number on the shroud? What series of numbers should it be? Any reason why there are brackets in the boot - maybe someone started to cooperise it? ![]() Will i have any problems registering it later with such a strange number series on the radiator shroud? cheers! jon |

On a 68 or earlier car, the body number is on the BODY (near or under the ID plate) NOT the radiator shroud. It was only when they started fitting compliance plates in Dec 69 that the shroud number matched the plate. The problem is that RTA etc inspectors have checked so many Clubbies in the last 35 years that they think ALL Minis have a legit body number there. I know of a Mini K which was reshelled when 1 year old due to a total writeoff, the bodyshell part number (when they sold shells) is stamped on the rad shroud, so that's what the RTA used as a body number... ![]() ![]() |
