I've had my Mini for just on 72 hours now and I've already had my first drama.
It started to falter late this arvo at around 1,800rpm. Temp was okay, it idled fine and it was still responsive, but it just wouldn't go above this mark.
I'd had a car alarm fitted this morning and I'd watched every move the techie made. I knew where he'd been, what he'd drilled, etc. He was extremely careful and I would have no hesitation in recommending him but nevertheless, I figured he'd bumped a vacuum tube off from somewhere. I'd actually done 20k's since this morning's business, but it only popped off late this arvo.
Anyway, I found the offending tube straight off. It seemed to lead under the air filter.
Unfortunately, you need a phillips head to get the air filter off and I didn't have any tools on me.
I was kinda hoping I wouldn't need to pop the air filter off so I rang Steve (as his was the only Mini number I had on me). Unfortunately, he confirmed that I'd need to get the air filter off and that I definitely wasn't barking up the wrong tree. Bugger!
So, then I walked about kilometre up to Bunnings and back and bought a screwdriver, got the air filter off and put the tube back on.
It still wasn't right, so I gave Steve another call. He told me to pop the air filter off again and re-check my work.
On closer inspection, I discovered that the little rubber elbow had cracks in it and this was obviously where the drama was coming from. Some careful positioning of the tube and we were back in business.
I'll be replacing all these little elbows on Wednesday. Repco are open and I'll be fronting up to get the bits I need.
