On the drive back, the car pulled to the left when braking, and to the right when accelerating. I was unsure what the issue was, but figured I'd jack the car up this arvo and check it out. The LHF wheel is fine, no movement when grabbed either side, or held on the top of bottom. The RHF wheel on the otherhand has movement. When it is held on the top and bottom, there is no movement (I fure that rules out wheel bearing issues). When it is held on the left side and right side, I can move the wheel about 10mm (Maybe less) towards and away from me on either side. Is this normal ? Or am I correct in thinking that the ball joints are rooted ? Or is it something else I should be searching for ? |

It could be the tie-rod end or the bolts on the steering arm. |

I've had the steering arm become loose beneath the boot on the steering rack, when it is loose it does just as you describe.. Wiggle the wheel and see if the arm moves but the steering wheel does not. |

No movement in the arm. Only movement is the in the - Ball joints & Steering Arm joint where it meets the wheel. |

Should the joint (looks like a smaller/longer balljoint) where the steering arm meets the hub move in its socket ? The nut is done up night, but the the joint appears to be able to move side to side within the rubber housing it ? I think that may be what is moving that shouldn't be ? |

Nope, should only swivel. Replace it and see what else moves if you can while you are there. |

Checked absolutely everything. Thats the only thing that moves. I will replace the joint on both sides though, just in case, rather safe than sorry!! Now to find somewhere with one by 2moro arvo, lol. Time to go get ripped of at the local english auto spares place...yay... |

When unding it..Count the amount of turn Off and On..this is the joint to the Steering Rack..You will need to get these ajusted correctly after

Both joints are now brand new. No more pulling to left or right, and no more odd noises from the rhf side. It's booked in for a wheel alignment Monday arvo, until then I borrow the g/fs car, as taking left hand turns results in the LHF wheel losing traction due to the alignment now being way off. Alignment would have been closer if I had marked the position of the joint I first took off, lol. Live and learn I guess.

Just going on the condition of that tie rod end....I would be inclined to give the whole suspension a good look over for other problems

Well since I am more than happy with the looks of the car, and I now cbf putting in a stereo setup (extra weight), I'm going to spend the cash on a really good suspension/shock setup. Saving for... New set of adjustable shocks Front end geometry kit. + all new rubbers to go on when I fit it all. New set of rotors (I will get some nice slotted ones) When I move out of these units I will probably lower it another inch all around. I cant go any lower at the moment or I wont make it down the drive to the underground garages. |
