I notice there are more alloy radiators cropping up on Ebay. I notice on this one:

That it has the smaller type of radiator cap, from a modern car. As far as I knew, these caps are not available to suit a car fitted with no overflow tank (ie a Mini). All the caps of that size I have seen available, have been the type to suit a car with a non-pressurised overflow tank. Does anybody know if the cap will actually work?

I will not pass judgement on the asking price.

Mini spares in Sydney have alloy radiators, i belive they take a normal mini sized cap.

I can't imagine why the radiator cap would be any problem, as long as it is the right lifting pressure.

I think you'll the cap is the type which is designed to allow the coolant to evacuate above a certain pressure, but once the pressure goes down it sucks the coolant back in - ala non pressurised overflow tank. With a Mini it is only designed to evacuate coolant above a certain pressure, but not draw it back in.

That's not really a big deal. Most new cars use the draw back system and many, many different non-pressurised expansion tanskc an be source cheap from your local generic car wrecker.

Ideally, a blank off cap would be the way to go, and then use a pressurised expansive tank. Preferably alloy too for extra bling, or polished brass like my car.

There is a standard cap you can get that fits Mini rads and allows this, just watch the length as there are 2 (Oz and UK).

For UK rads, and non pressurised overflow tank, use a `CPC’ 543-13, made in Oz. I ran one on a super 2 core rad.

what pressure should a mini radiator cap be??

For Australian Cooper S running a ST 2 core radiator from England??

Yes but the 543-13 is a large diameter cap. My point is, this alloy radiator has the small diameter cap, which as far as I know is only available as either a blanking cap (for pressurised overflow tank) or for non-pressurised overflow tanks. I don't think it is available for use of cars with no overflow tank.

I have alloy radiators in stock here but they don`t cost anywhere near that much

Can someone explain if there would be a need for a different cap in that case. The end result would simply be it lets air back into the top when the tank has overflowed, isn't that what happens anyway ??

Just run a cap for an overflow tank, the radiator will not know the difference.
