For small items (dizzy or smaller)use USPS, very good rates. UPS on the other hand is very expensive

What is wrong with just asking for the stuff to be sent by Normal Air mail. Insure it if you have to, but I pesonally will not ever use UPS again they charge too many unnecessary fees which will make the item you bring too expensive. But, up to you to make your own mind up. Just my 2c worth on this subject.

Well, the cheapest is a mate if he's coming to visit you :) Failing that, surface (SUPS) but many places won't do it as it's not tracked, and takes between 30 - 60 days.

Just ask the person to give you the most economical rate that they offer, should be 7 - 14 days express.

It used to be cheaper to get stuff sent from the states, now it's comparable to what it costs from the UK (but as you say, with the US$ down, it gets a little more attractive.)

It's pretty rare for me to order mini parts from the U.S - England is much more competitive for prices.

Remember your order can cost up to $1000 total (inc. shipping) before customs demand duty/taxes now. So order a few things together to make it worth your while.

Bringing stuff in from the US is a right pain in the arse. I have done this many many many times with my RC gear I bring in.

A lot of companies have deals cut with freight companies like UPS, Fedex etcetera and won't consider any other method. You really have to squeeze them.

I would rather pull teeth than deal with US freight companies. USPS is bearable however.

When I got my Pertronix from http://www.vintageperformance.com/retro ... /lucas.htm it came via USPS, that cost me US$6.95 and it was here in a week. :D
