Hey guys i have been a long time admirer of old minis and i am a panel beater in wagin western australia. been doing it for 11 years with my father and he also shared a love for minis as his first car was a 1965 deluxe

We have decided to restore 2 minis to showroom condition
we have our hearts set on the old style pre 1970 but after 1964.

after searching around the district we have found 5 minis all in varying states of disrepair.
The trouble is we have engine codes and the compliance plates but no idea of what year the minis are and we were looking for some help.
I have serched quite a few forums and think i understand what the model numbers stand for but i was serching for a bit more information so thought i would delve into the knowlege base of these forums

Engine #: 9Ya/Ta/H 12717
im thinking this is a mark 2 mini so between 65 and 69?
and would have a 998cc motor?

This one has 1970 on the compliance plate but we dont know much about it other then it is a mark 3? maybe with a 1275cc motor?
the engine number is of the motor so dont know what engine it originaly had.

Im guessing mark one pre 65 with a 850cc motor?

Mini Deluxe from about 1965/66. 998 motor.


Mini Minor or Mini 1100. It would have came with an 1100.
The 12YD/Ta engine is out of a Morris 1100S


Mini 850. Up to 65.


Mini Deluxe again. About August 1966.


Mini Deluxe again. About 1967/68.


All Australian Minis are Mk1 (even the Cooper S Mk2) We never got the UK Mk1 to Mk35 or what ever they went to.

This ones a late 1963 morris 850 .

Can you remember the original colour off the ID plate at all so I can include it in the 850 register for identifying the age of 850's ?

I can date 850's (YMA2S1) from the numbers on the ID plate through the 850 register (on the top page of mini chat at the moment) after a lot of work . Prior to setting up the register it was a matter of finding someone that had the history (date built from sales literature or original rego papers) of their 850 and comparing the numbers . There are a few other registers being run on here , 997 and 998 coopers by graham_in_aus (or is it grahaminaus , how do you write it Graham ?) , 1275 LS's by czerial , Clubman GT's by Gavin (what's your name here Gavin , clubmanGT I think but not sure ???) . Someone else was doing one for mini deluxes as well but I haven't seen anything on it for a while .
