Hi, when I turn my S steering wheel right to left ( bit like the V8 Supercars warmup) the car feels floaty, not tied down. like my 04 Cooper S. I've had the alignment done and its right. any other ideas?? Cheers Brett |

I sometimes feel the same way when going from a new car to my car. Once on the move it's hard to believe how light the steering is compared to some new cars. I reckon it's all in your head ![]() |

After 40 years the damping in the displacers is probably getting suss- put some cheap shocks on the front like the rest of us have. It just about eliminates the floaty feeling. Unless it's pumped too high, of course. ![]() |

Try taking a 67 Holden/Ford/Valiant for a drive then get in your S and see if you still think it doesn't handle. They were fabulous in their day. Pete |

Has no one else thought to suggest checking the steering rack and mounts? I assume he means at low speed using the V8 supercar analogy. KB |

I assume he means at low speed using the V8 supercar analogy. KB I was just about to...but I don't want to sound like a broken record ![]() How old is the rack is the question...whats it condition like? whats the steering column splines like? and does the rack have boots that are still holding some oil in ![]() |
