I stumbled across this while searching for something else and was wondering , now that the locked for sale system has been in use for over a year , what are peoples thoughts on it ? http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=24827 Once Poeee figured out how to lock it while still allowing the original poster to edit their item themselves it made a lot of people happier but what are peoples thoughts on it (given that a lot of current members haven't been here long enough to remember the crap that used to happen in the for sales ) . |

I think it works well - provided the original poster edits the subject line to include the word "Sold" after they have found a buyer. The lock has stopped all the "that bolt is wrong so it's not original" pettiness and irrelevant side discussions under a "For Sale" topic |

I belive it has'nt helped, a lot of times once a item had been sold, you could gauge from replies to the topic if the item had sold quickly then it was in demand, you could also offer the same item to someone who had missed out on the original item for sale. Doogie |

I'm not a fan as it doesn't allow question time. If someone wants to be a tool in someone's for sale thread, their posts should be able to be deleted by or at the request of the seller. |

yea i don't like it. People selling need to communicate with their buyers. I agree if someone is a tool, delete their posts. If it is going to continue like this then i think there should be set rules for each post. like including photo's and price. |

I've only been around here for 15 minutes, so I don't have any experience to contribute pre-lockdown. I can say however, that I don't find the can't-reply rule to be obstructive. On a couple of occasions I've wanted to reply, but not necessarily with a question relevant to the sale, and to others -- it's more conversational.. which is exactly the clutter the lockdown is intended to eliminate. I disagree with the buyer/seller communication argument -- that's what PMs are for. Requiring that mods step in to remove irrelevant posts just makes the mod job that much harder, when we should be making it easier. Basically, I don't think the lockdown makes the forsale section any less useful -- probably the opposite. I do wish though that more sellers would update their post with the item's status, rather than needing to send an is this still for sale? PM. A more strict format guideline would be helpful too. IMHO the benefits greatly outweigh the detriments. My 5c. |

while we were originally having some issues with bored users picking apart everyone's for sale posts asking questions is pretty important, especially when users provide insufficient information in their original posts. it seems the for sale section is less active these days. more work for the mods or less work? |

maybe make reply as question or deletion by seller, is it possible to give the original poster (seller) power to delete posts in his own thread? |

I think it is good, keeps it clean & tidy. My original gripe was the inability to edit or update, which is now fixed. The other thing is I have learned to pm the seller if i have something else to add or ask. Positive step in general. M |

They already have that ability , the original poster/seller can delete or edit anything in their own post but can't reply to it (people used to "bump" their own thread every day to keep it at the top of the page when it was only 4th or 5th from the top) to bump it themselves . |

What Matt was asking was to be able to delete "posts" in reply to their original post, not if they could do anything with their original post. Cheers Steve |

I dont like it......and it stops me from using the section. One question could help many other interested parties.....and if it's something stupid (on the part of the original poster) such as leaving out the engine displacement or something, it could stop alot of time wasting and frustration by getting bombarded by a heap of PMs that you have to reply to. A clear set of rules, and strict moderation ensures none of the other forums I visit have any problems with their for sale sections. If there are particular trouble makers, they should be dealt with......it shouldn't detract from everyone else's flexibility and enjoyment of the community. |

Im new to the forums and i must say when i saw the thread locked in such a way i thought that it wasent the best idea. I wasent here b4 when everyone had the problems so i cant really comment to much but i would have thought it would work really well with just really strick moderation. mods can delete anythign thats is flaming of unhelpful or negitive in anyway and make the rules strickly for insightful or helpful questions imho |

Cheers Steve Most forums have that option, though I think it is more a global permission option and not board specific.... 
Can cause more friction between members doing it that way, would be better for the request to remove/edit post be sent to a mod.... I think it works ok how it is, sending PMs to ask questions isnt that hard..... I agree it would be better if once the item/s are sold the seller then edit their headings to add sold or request thread to be deleted... |
