i thought the site was just taken down to upgrade the BB software? that was done to prevent hacker attacks!

No - it's actually a new session cookie being writen too often, not just when you log in but now it appears every time you call for any page on the forum.

So now every time it trys to calculate anything about "since last here" it is referring to a time writen only a couple seconds ago in that cookie file not last time you visited the site yesterday. Hence you get zippo search results because not many topics have changed since 7 seconds ago.

The admins are aware and are working the problem.

and mickmini... I hazard a guess and suggest that the forum repeatedly refused to log you in until you ticked the check-box to "remember your login on this computer"
