I'm doing a bare metal resto on the K and i've got about 3/4 of it stripped, but I'm going to have to put it on hold for a while. if I sprayed it with WD40 would this greate issues when the time comes that I can get back to it?

You will have trouble getting it completely out of all the seams , and when you paint it , it will come through the paint ....

I haven't used it yet myself but POR 15 "metal ready" should do what you want. Look around for a shop that stocks it and they should be able to help you out.

the metal ready only prepares it for paint, like an etch and rust converter in one...most panel shops I have spoken too actually suggest putting wd40 on the bare metal panels if it is going to be a bit till they get to it...as for the seams they should be hit with seam sealer prior to paint anyway....dont think the wd40 will effect that will it?

I was going to hit the body with the water blaster when its ready to paint, so that should clean off any excess dirt, dust, WD40 etc. Then blow out any water with high pressure(of course). I'm in Canberra. so being a dry place moisture shouldnt be a real problem.

Andy...there are several products around that use Phosphoric Acid (nasty stuff) best to go to Capital Paints or Allards or similar and get some advice.

Others have had success with bulk WD-40 or CRC etc...you just have to be prepared to clean the stuff off thoroughly.

Use a lanolin based solution. it wont wash off in water (without soap/surfactants) and will wash away properly when you do.

Lanolin spray is fantastic. Machine shops use it to protect newly machined metal. I have a block that was machined 8 years ago, sprayed with lanolin and sat in my shed and it's still perfect. I spray all my spare parts with it before they go in the shed. You can get it from the hardware.
