Post subject: | Steering column support - bolt removal |
I went to take the steering column off my mini today - it's an easy job on UK cars, it's essentially a screw. However, looking at the aussie ones, it's like a smoothed out bolt on both ends. Had a look at my LS - same thing. The haynes manual, being UK, says screw. Soooooo, am I just having a blond moment here? How the hell do I remove it? If people aren't sure what i'm talking about, i can post pics. Help me Obewan support team, you're my only hope! Another question - anyone at SDMC got a rubber cone compression tool I can borrow? ![]() |

I believe I know what you mean, is there enough room to get multi-grips on each end? From memory theres a couple of mill of body to grab hold of, but don't have it in front of me. Otherwise, small grinder/dremel and cutting disc, make a slot in each and undo with blade screwdrivers. |

It is made specially hard to undo so that you can't bypass the steering lock by just turning the whole column. Just use vicegrips or grind a flat on each side. |

Thanks for bringin that up. I came across it the other day when stripping the clubbie. I piled it in a corner to forget about. Now i know that destruction truely is the only way. |
