Alrighty then... I have an idea. A section for we mini owners to get a quote from representatives from local mini service/repair companies for repairs, parts, etc. This also give the opportunity for other companies to beat the price. it's kind of a reverse ebay. ![]() my example is My situation.. i'm looking for someone to suplpy and install a clutch kit for me... the current best price i've found so far is $295. Can anyone beat it?..... Hows that sound? |

Cushy, this won't fly .....commercial reality.....yeah sure I'll put ALL my prices on a notice board so someone can undercut me or know the right price to charge. It is also time critical, todays quote for a clutch overhaul may be tommorows Fish and Chip wrappings due to exchange rate variations, parts availability, labour rates etc etc Its like a Dutch Auction and could even get this Forum in trouble from other repairers who weren't "in the know" to bid for the work.... I would stick to the tried and true word of mouth recommendation if I were you.....if people say nice things about their experiences with particular repairers or parts suppliers here ...well thats a another good indication (BUT NO GUARRANTY OF STATISFACTION when it comes to your turn) ![]() |

Post subject: | Ausmini is not a beating stick |
Seems a lot of people are using Ausmini as a beating stick. It never fails to piss me off people are eager to jump on this forum to leverage pricing. There are thousands of motor repair shops around and the specialists you will find are cheapest of them most of the time. When people try and drive a price that is not cost effective they lose out in the end. You either get poor quality of part and service or you get a business going under. I scratch my head when people jump into buy/sell forums and quote what they think an item is worth when they arent buying or selling. A very good friend of mine said to me not long ago. Be it a 1060's mini, mustand, rollsroyce, or GHM it's all made out of the same metal and it's 40 years old so expect to pay for what you want. A motor mechanic putting in a clutch on a mini or valiant charges the same per hour. I think the best part of Aysmini is the good friendships thaty can be developed and the education to being able to do it yourself. Try doing it yourself or getting a friend to show you how. Lastly pay the going price and be happy someone still makes the parts and someone else knows how to install it. Good luck |

My belief is that you shop where you think you are getting the best service. The more you shop there the better deals and service you get. After all, it's about the car and how you maintain it. If you put prices up there is always someone who will beat it... everytime. The only thing you can't control is that two companies may use two different quality parts... one will always be cheaper. If we were to post prices up the only thing you would achieve is a war between businesses. I joined ausmini as a mini lover not a business and try to keep the two seperate. If someone wants a price i'll pm them. |

i'm with you brickworx (holds fist in air). look at some of the other posts he has responded to with tech advice. Now you may not want to take his advice, but he offers it here free of charge. you could go to him and have work done to the specs he mentions, and goodo for his business. or you could do it yourself, maybe buy some parts from him, again goodo. or you could just take the specs he recommends to his competition and have them do the work, maybe cheaper, maybe poor quality, maybe dearer, maybe higher quality. in the end someone else gets work based on advice offerred here for free that some other businesses won't offer unless you have been buying from them for years and spent $k already. in my experience good business relationships are worth the money you pay for them, and the earlier you pay the bill, the further up the queue you jump when there is a lot of work on. |

I agree! Help the blokes that help you. Mind you, it is only a clutch. Two hours and you are done! (I know I am slowing down these days!) |

A clutch job today may be next years resto job. If you pay the money, have quality parts fitted, and someone who knows how to work on it...This is service. If you have someone do it on the cheap, bugger it up or not give you the satisfaction you have expected.... you have only wasted your money. Do it once. do it right. pay the money. end of story. |

(Sheeesh, got to be careful with everything I say these days) The best parts to use is only part of the equation, equally important is having people with the Mini knowledge to instal those parts correctly. The number of these "in the know" people is decreasing dudes!!! If you find a good one, and you are happy with the service, price and quality of work.....then....Durrrrrh...keep supporting that business! ![]() Brick......it is nice of you to offer to PM quotes etc but as you would well know, an email description of a problem may not be adequate for a quote .....like...."Its an Electrical Problem!!"....yeah, the conrod coming through the block knocked the Distributor off!" ![]() As one of the few identifiable Mini businesses on Ausmini, I appreciate your statement about wanting to keep the two seperate (Cheers and Beers) ![]() |

I hear you... and agree. People to work on mini's are dying out... therefore prices do go up. There is no point setting up an arguement between two businesses, the only person that loses is the customer when one goes bankrupt. There is enough work to go around, And i work with and buy from the people that look after me. I don't asked to be paid to put my say in on a forum, I like to talk mini's and know that i might have helped someone. Therefore if i have something that may help them, they are welcome to ask. |
