I reckon they wouldn't exist.
The engine block design was all long before widespread computer use, and if anyone did have them, they wouldn't let them out of their hands.
I mean, who hasn't thought of grabbing a cad model, emailing down to the local machine shop and having it replicated from alloy?

I'm sure Norm Sainty here in Sydney could CNC mill an A series out of billet alloy, he did a run of Lancia V4s a year or 2 ago for the pre-WW2 vintage brigade, their old sand cast V4 blocks were past their use-by date. 8)
But... what is the point..... an A series isn't that heavy, but make it lighter and you'll lose traction!!

Balance the lose of traction with stickier grippier tyres - see the nswer is easy. :D

Make it a 5 main brg block & then make a 5 main brg crank to suit & i`ll be in for at least two of them :-)

Oh that`s right,,, it`s allready been done & is called a suzuki hyabusa :-)

And make it a twin cam, and make it a 4-valve head, and make it sequential multi-point fuel injection and make it EMS, and make it..................................... :D

just make an exact replica of the 1100 motor, except make it 1600, no need to go silly, just a little bigger then let the crazy's do what they want with it...

Not in CAD but you can import pics and trace over. Most of the images in the workshop manuals are actually perspective so useless for real dimensions. There is some artistic licence in these and I don't think it is a constant section plane. See how the clutch slave cylinder is at top.

850 pic from original release:

These are contained in the Automobile Engineer articles I posted about a while back. Nobody replied.

Alloy A-Series? That isn`t a new idea and has already be made by BMC!
Sadly they only made a few prototypes of the alloy-engine.

Look at this:
http://mk1-performance-conversions.co.u ... l_dept.htm

The .pdf is VERY interesting! ;)

Many alloy engines now are throw-away, they run chrome plated pistons direct in the alloy bore... much as a Briggs & Stratton mower engine does.

At least we can bore the hell out of an A series, they are made from Detroit wonder-metal.. 8)

And you dont have noticable electrolytic replacement with heavy metal either
