gday all just wondering if anyone knows anyone(.... haha....) that does winscreen+window installation or is it just as viable to go at it myself? cheers, Matt |

I'd be interested to know this too. I want to change the seal on the back window and put new locking strips in front and back. I'm not really interested in doing these jobs myself. |

I got a new windscreen rubber fitted to Barney recently by Instant Windscreens in Parramatta. http://www.instantwin.com.au/ Cost me $140 and I supplied the rubber. If you think that's dear, it was $60 cheaper than O'******'s one. 
No, it doesn't leak. Good job.

There is a how to here http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=35046 for putting the locking strip in after replacing the screen or rubber , still searching to find the windscreen instructions as it's been covered here a few times . It is fairly easy and you can do it yourself if you have a bit of patience . |

As i found out a couple of weekends ago, it's straightforward but really a two person job. I removed and replaced the front windscreen by myself in about 1 1/2 hours, most of which was spend getting it back in. With helping hands, it would be an hour at the most. I ignored the "string" trick to pulling the rubber over the glass - clearly that wasn't going to work with me working by myself. I tried making a tool to push the locking strip into place, as suggested in the How To article, but ended up scouring the garage for other tools, and I can heartily recommend plastic tyre levers for a bicycle. The 'hook' end is perfect for pulling the rubber up and over the glass, and the 'spoon' end is perfect for pushing the locking strip in place. However, I have two sets of tyre levers, one was ideal and made the job a breeze, the other set wasn't shaped quite right. I used a chrome finishing strip to cover the join, but it's not as neat as leaving it for a day and trimming it to length. And the difference in appearance over the old yellowed strip is huge, as is the new dash pad (the real reason for removing the windscreen in the first place). |

I had a go at this and promptly put a crack right down the centre of the windscreen. Got a commercial company to replace the glass (I had the rubber seal and lock strip) and it cost me nothing because shannons insurance have a free, no excess windscreen replacement. also some other companies too. Its a lot easier if someone else does it. 
You might be able to get a replacement if the windscreen has an irrepairable chip or crack...wink wink nudge nudge.

Laminated screens are a pain becuase they crack easily. There are a few tips to avoiding breaking them but if you have not done one before it is probably better to watch an expert first. Rear windows are easy.

i have seen a pro do it in about 10 mins a friend and i took over an hour for the front and longer for the back we wont talk about the side windows at the back of the van .  and the other thing is if you break it you pay for another one you do it and you break it you pay

Windscreens are easy to get in with a fresh rubber. All you need is some soapy liquid in a spray bottle, some good nylon rope (well thats what we use at work, window tinting). To do the locking strip though, I had a go at making my own wire bend peice, but ended up borrowing a proper tool, and after that, USE THE PROPER TOOL, 5 seconds and your finished! - To get it in, attach the rubber to the screen, make sure its all pressed in properly. - Now, run the rope around the lip that the metal of the car would sit in, and have both ends of the rope finish at the bottom of the glass in the middle (what we've found easiest, not a necessity). - Carefully place the glass onto the bottom metal lip so that as much of the rubber lip is over the metal lip (ie. like it would be when finished, but it won't line up quite perfect from the rope etc) - If you have someone handy, get them to help now. Get them to gently push the window down onto the metal lip, and press in towards the car at the same time. - Whilst ^^ carefully pull 1 end of the rope working your way around to pull the lip of rubber over the metal, with the help following on the outside with pressure. Stop once you've gone about 75% up 1 side. - Now work from the middle in the bottom again and do up to the other side, and if all is still going well (70% of the rubber should be over the lip now) just keep working your way around. Once its all over, give the glass a gentle shove from the outside pushing in, it should fall in a little bit and fit like a glove. Easy! Now just fit the locking strip. |

hey guys well im decideing on whether to buy the big seal kit from CM or whether i should just look around see if i can find cheaper.... any ideas/advice would be very helpful, PM me if you want, Cheers
