Finally worked out what the dual green wires to 1 female spade are at the front of the clubby I'm doing are. Reverse lights!! Well, there is no switch in the gearbox (has magic wand), so I need the front gearbox mount reverse light switch. Check Karcraft's catalog and looks like a no go, so....? |

Reversing lights came in in around late 1971 i think, so a magic wand box does'nt have the internal mechanism in the box to activte the switch. Doogie |

Well the mini is a 73, and has everything there for it except the actual switch, although I will double check! (I couldn't see at the time, so I felt and it just felt like the hex nut or whatever it is) The tail lights are dual filament, the wires there in the engine bay, the VIN plate specifies the ADR for reverse lights.... so??

Another question, this swithc is designed to send +12v to the 2 indicator wires yeh? So it has dual terminals, one for the dual indicator spade and another for a +12v source? Does anyone know what the thread is? Would a normal break light type switch fit? |

I got mine from "Spit Bits" - out of a Triumph Spitfire. Only hassle was it was metric thread and I had to find someone with the right imperial die and 'alter' the thread slightly (pitch is different) With a bit of ingenuity you can get it to work. PM me if you want more details |

From my researches in the past the part numbers are : Lucas 39889 BAU1074A Though I have test fitted a BAU1074Z (39890) and seemed to work fine.... used in triumphs and MGBs etc ... see this thread.... http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=38423&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15 and searching ebay uk there a handful about at the moment

Doogie Well it does, it's the same reverse lockout mechanism whether 3 synchro magic wand/remote, or 4 remote. You just replace the hex plug at front of box with the reverse switch and plunger (IF you can still buy one).

The plunger is just a piece of rod ½" long if I remember right - can measure it if you want it exact - but the new switch I bought is slightly longer in the thread area so may need to adjust the rod length. Also the spring is a different length than the plain box so that will need adjustment if adding a switch to a box that didn't have one before. If you can get an original go for it as the new ones "look" different but still function the same. |

I throw those standard springs away and fit a blue diespring... makes the reverse `lockout' much more effective. No more getting reverse gate when going 2-3 in a hurry!
