Both thre rod and remote boxes are remote shift, but they differ in the linkage.
Remote came first, the linkage is enclosed in an alloy housing that runs back to the gearlever. There is also an extra engine mount there in the tunnel (which was a good idea).
Rodchange was introduced to replace it in 1973. It has 2 rods running to the gearbox from a shifter box where the lever is. Engine tends to move about a lot more, so they added a top steady near the radiator.
Which is best? I like the remote, it was an engineered solution.... 8)

I'd go remote over a rod change any day. A standard remote change feels like a short shifter when compared to a standard rod change!
