Looking for any information or additional photos of the Pat Moss (yes sister of Stirling) 997 Cooper that won the Yorkshire rally in 1962 and competed in the Monte.

Thinking about building a replica and would appreciate ANY information or new photos that people may have giving details such as, colour scheme (think it may have been tartan red/black), rally fittings, etc. I do possess a copy of The Works Cars by Browning and have gleaned what I could from that.

Appreciate any help that people may provide.

willy, Contact the Mini Cooper register (if you are not already a member.)

http://www.minicooper.org/index.html

The archivist, Robert Young is also the ex works registrar, he will almost certainly have pictures and possible even build data on ABL.

http://www.minicooper.org/registers/ex_works.htm

He will send you copires for a small fee, might want you to join up though, it's worth it for the ,magazine!

Oh they have aforum too:

I would also have a look at the Brian Moylan Books....works rally mechanic in their heyday. One of them is all about how they built them, who did what etc. Not detailed for every car, but at least a good start. Being an early car, the chances are the mods were probably fairly minor.

Quick google...

Also for film footage try
http://www.britishpathe.com
I did a search "monte rally 1962" and found " MONTE CARLO RALLY WON BY SWEDEN" 2639.24

There's about 10 seconds at the end of the footage of 737abl when getting presentations.... (black and white)

Not the real thing but...

Thanks Simon, I wonder what the idea with the dash was?
Somewhere for Pat's Handbag? or Fags?

As you say, would you really want to replicate? Hmmnn

I would guess it was for the handbag. She was notorious for leaving it behind and having the service crew chase her to return it.

Thanks for the interior shot 776. Not sure that I need a place for the handbag though!!!!!
Like the switch panel - looks almost after-market accessory. Anyone come across one like this? Is that a Les Leston steering wheel? I've got a very sad one somewhere.

Maybe I'll just stick to an external replica.

Great to have so much info provided. Really appreciate it guys.
Cheers wild_willy
