Hey, I was wondering what would be better a 2 core radiator or a 4 core radiator, i am also going to race my car, if that makes any difference. Fill free to post me back. Even with some pictures. Cheers Sav |

I was only doing some asking around about this very subject today as I will be doing some modding to mine and will need a new radiator....verdict from this is a 2 core is better over the 4 core, but apparently the radiators out of the californians and late model LS are better.... So if you come across a spare californian or late LS wide radiator, keep me in mind too

Just stay away from the aftermarket UK 3 cores, they are a POS with only 8 fins/inch, and the bracket attachments are flimsy.... they fall off 
Oz 3 core ones have 16 fins/inch... and I find (when recoed) them just as good as the UK super 2 core is. |

The 4 row will be better if it has sufficient fins/inch . Generally when they manufacture a core with more rows of tubes , they reduce the fins/inch . Most of the Aussie 3 row ones have 16 fins/inch , which was the standard for the Cooper S and some other models . Others such as 850's only had 12 fins/inch , which reduces the cooling effect somewhat . To check just use a ruler , and count the number of fins measured for one inch . The moke Californian is a very good radiator , probably the best of them , having 4 rows of tubes and 16 fins/inch . The top and bottom tanks are slightly wider to accomodate the wider core , but will still fit a mini . These cores are still available through Natra Australia , and standard mini tanks can be converted to fit them , by any good radiator repair shop .............

i have been using a minispares 4 core for over 6 years now in my 184hp 1293 turbo and its runs fine even on hot (30) degree days it never sees more than 200 degrees F before this i used a S 3 core and it used to run much hotter and often overheat. as mentioned they are a little wider but filing the holes in the top bracket to allow the rad to sit closer to the engine and bending the bottom bracket it clears the shroud and the fan and is sweet. highly recomend for any modded mini that runs warm.
