Love the motorbike engined rear wheel drive Z cars minis, been told they could not be made road legal here in WA as cars must keep the same engine configureation. Front engine cars cannot get the engine put in the back and made street legal. Would stress this is hear-say and I have not actually checked it out personally. Was wondering if this is the case the posibbilities of doing the rear bike engine mod on an Imp being they were rear engined anyway. Any thoughts?
Cheers Mark.

Mark,

When I was at the DPI in Welshpool talking about my conversion, they had told me someone had tried to convince them about the Z cars conversions and they weren't having it!
They said the only way would be to re-register as an ICV which apparently would have to comply with all current ADRs.
Also I think there are issues with bike engines in cars, something to do with emissions?

This leads me on to AWDMokes conversion as that is going through engineering and DPI have approved the mods I believe? Still front engined but converted to all wheel drive!

Does that then lead on to twin engined AWD!!!???

Rich

Just out of interest just got an email from Z cars and they do infact do a kit for the Imp. Costs a bit more for the roll cage but it has been done.

First find your Imp, there aren't many left.
And parts are bloody hard to get, even from Imp sites.

My bro' has just restored his one owner `65 one.

Yea I know their rare. Just happened to notice a complete one for sale at a good price in the weekend paper along with two restorables, or parts cars. Not in a position to do anything at the moment myself anyway. I have too many other projects that need finishing off first. But thought I would just float the idea. Would be awsome to have a steet legal Imp that could do wheel stands :)

you can do almost anything if an engineer says that it is safe but contact awdmoke (mick) cos he's the local expert (and an engineer, not automotive though)

There is a Moke about somewhere (Qld?) registered with a midmounted Toyota Camry I think, but it was built before current regs came into force.
