| Post subject: | Pedal Box and Brake/Clutch Cylinders |
Hey guys, I'm stuck again. How do you get these bloody things apart? It feels like they're all undone, but the piece that the pedal moves still extends into the cylinder. I've had a bit of a search around the site, but apologies ahead if I've overlooked the answer to this one. What should I do? |

Adam stares at Doogie with a blank look for a while... So where would I find these, if I haven't moved them yet? Sorry to sound like a moron, but I've never played with this part of the car before today. |

At the end of each pedal there is a hole. At the bottom of the pushrod's to the master cylinders there is a fork type thing that fit either side of the pedal (which also has holes). Through these holes is a clevis pin (Sort of like a short threadless bolt with a hole through it) that joins the two parts in order for the pedal to push the pushrod. |

Hop in the driver's foot well. And at the top of the brake and clutch pedal there is a little clevis pin (see pic above) that connects the pedals to the master cylinders. They are often held in with split pins but if you are lucky someone might have fitted r clips. They can also be quite rusty especially if the master cylinders have leaked on to them at some stage in their life. Be patient, most mini owners regard this as one of the most annoying jobs to do. A long pair of long nosed pliers and side cutters make the job easier. Grab a beer and have ago

Ah, that does make it look a lot easier. Thanks for all your help, guys. I'm gonna wander back up there shortly and have another crack at it. I'll let you know how it all goes. Matt... I'm in Athelstone, South Australia. I'll go fix up my profile details now.

My secret trick is to thread lockwire through the eye of the cotter pin, tighten, twist and pull. Comes out pretty easy compared to stuffing around with screwdrivers and long nose pliers. |

Hmmm...nice... Any good tricks for putting them back ?? I've got the longest pair of long nose pliers in the western hemisphere. They make the best of a bad situation.. |
