Im moving from SA to VIC this week. Just wondering what I have to do to tranfer rego for the moke, and what the hell all this RWC stuff is about?

VIC are as harsh as NSW for rego checks!!

Keep it registered in SA... lot easier.
Same as your license.... You would have family here... use that address.

Not as harsh as RTA are here, apparently, when you bring your car back from Vic! And it (VW) had been a NSW car originally for years, same owner.. :cry:

Probably gone for two years, I was told that I would have to register it as a vic car as I would be living at a vic adress. Is it legal to keep it registered as a South Australian car at my parents adress?

I think it depends on wether you are going to become a permanent resident, or if you are going back to your real home in SA. You can still be a resident of SA but work in another state?

If I am reading what was posted before right I cna simply register it as a vic car without having a roadworthy, as it is currently registered in my name in SA. So it is probably just as easy to register it as a vic car for a couple of the years. The plan is to work there for a couple of years to save enough money to go around the world, and find myself something unique to ship back from england!

My brother lives in ballarat and had to have a roadworthy cause it wasnt registered, but that was three years ago, and he hasnt had to have one sincce, I think?.

I moved down from NSW in 2001 and I didn't need to get a RWC. The car was registered in my name and from memory all I had to do was pay a little fee and pay for the plates.

We don't have annual roadworthys here. The only times you need a roadworthy are:
- when the car is sold to someone outside your immediate family with current rego.
- when re-registering a car on which the rego has lapsed for more than three months.
- clearing a defect notice (the dreaded canary!)

You DO NOT need a roadworthy if bringing a car from interstate that is already in your name.

It's better to register the car in Vic. That way you won't have hassles from the cops. I used to drive a hotted up Gemini with NSW plates. In the first month I was In Vic I got pulled over three times for a rego check. Never happened in NSW, so I guess it was the interstate plates. Changed to Vic rego and never got pulled over again.
