Just found that the alternator in our cooper s ( smelly )is shaged. I got one some time a go from Mini Sport in South Australia but the wiring is not the same. The cooper s has the large brown wire for charging, brown and yellow for the charge indicator and the field wire brown and green. Now the problem is the new alternator has no marks on the terminal cover and only has two large spade terminals and one small . Please help ![]() |

Please help ![]() The 2 large ones are for charging, just put the brown wire you have on one of them. All I did with my `70 Matic and it works fine. The small one is indicator lamp, brown/yellow. The brown and green field one is not used, in fact you can unplug the old 4TR or 8TR V regulator, it's not needed now.. the newer alts all have internal regulator. |

Yep tape it up, if you pull the big long plug off the voltage reg there's no juice on it anyway. ![]() |

Well that easy thanks again for your help. Today started out ok then went down hill from there. First was my weekly sunday drive in smelly, Today should have been good no one on the road. Then i had a crazy idea to open the bonnet. 1 replace alternator. 2 found radiator side plate solder has spit (need new radiator) on order. 3 Check drive shaft play when i was under the car and found more work replaced the universal joints, cv's, very worn drive shafts, new disk rotors, new drive flanges and steering rack. now my deluxe is looking a bit thin under the front. Not going to open the bonnet next week ![]() |
