ok, so this weekend i decided to put my clubby on a "rust free" diet.... so far its been pretty easy goin, no major holes or rot anywhere! only a few little ones.... my question is, How do i get rid of these little holes of rust? 
been a pretty productive day actually...... sanded back treated and primered+filled most of the inside of the car  let it set overnight, then maybe sand back in the morning?

Cut it all out to sound metal and weld a patch in. If you just bog it, it'll be back inside 12 months.

i cant weld 
and! how dow you weld something that small? and! if i were to go out and hire a mig for the weekend would i be able to teach my self in sufficient time? |

well.... I dont think they will be that small once you open them out to sound metal... maybe poke/tap around them until it sounds solid, mark that point and open them up to there. Once opened up, you will be able to place a new sheet of metal in, and tack weld it with a mig... Im sure you will be able to figure out how to use it pretty quickly - just practice on scrap metal. zap the seam for a second or two every inch then come back around in the middle of those. Doing it like this will help stop you overheating the metal and weakening it. That area in your door jamb looks pretty nasty that close to the a-panel.... have you checked how far that damage goes? one of the more complex areas of the body as far as layers and folds go.... I agree with the others - bogging wont help. Yes you could hire and learn but enough Ausmini people have small transportable migs so maybe you could put your hand up and appeal for help . Organise a garage workshop day and offer amber nectar. Prior to that find, beg or borrow a rusty old shell and attack it with an angle grinder and cut out the panels you think you are going to need. Cut it twice the length and width you think you are going to need. It also gives you an idea of how the panels go together. Remember you can only weld clean solid metal to clean solid metal. They panels you show us in the photos are very close to your legs and a decent whack in the side would fold the car around your legs and hip. Its worth doing properly. Failing a workshop day - any panel beater with half a heart would do the cut and shut on those bits (you supply the cut-out bits) for a lot less than you think. Mike |

This is kinda left of field but it is an option. For the smaller holes you could clean them right up. Treat them with some kind acid type rust killer. Then solder them? I have always had a mig and I have never done this but it could work. |

With small rust pin holes weld them up. 1 clean area with hydrochloric acid[avaliable from any hard ware ] This will dissolve rust, but will not attack steel. 2 Once rust is gone, wash area off with sodium bi-carbonate [common baking soda] This will neutralise acid and stop flash rusting. then wash off with water. 3 To weld small areas, clamp a piece of copper or brass flat bar behind hole. Then fill hole with weld. The copper/brass acts as heat sink and allows the weld to be layered to fill hole. with bigger areas clean up in same way then you can see where to cut out and replace rusted area. You will find that sometimes there is rust under paint surface in the rusted area, and this will rust out later after the repair has been done. Ask if there is someone in your area who has mig that is willing to help you. Body filler does not replace steel |

There is always more more rust than is visible. If need a hand drop me a line. I have cheap and nasty portable Mig and would be happy to help. But first you need to 1. Find out the true extent of the rust 2. Get the metal that you are going to let in where the rust is (go to smash repaiers and ask for some old panels or doors they dont need or some steel off cuts) 3. Organise some etch primer for when its done 4. and if you are fussed about the paint colour come back on here and ask somebody to help spray it. |

wow...... that was a greater response than i thought i would get.... thanks
so! ive been poking around these rusty holes for a while and have pretty much cut/bashed all the flaky crap off of it, they were a bit bigger than i thought.... lol ill buy some HCL in the morning and see wat i can do with it... BIAM- that would be awsome if you could give me a hand! ive been fumbling for the past couple of weeks about wat to do with these holes and all the in car surface rust.... i think i may have to organise either a "amber Lunch/BBQ/Garage day at mine in the next couple of weeks.... when you say 'old panels' from the smash repairers it doesnt have to be mini specific does it? i would think not, but i am just curious.... i guess you dont wanna see a picture of the boot then hey..... lol

Just let me know when your ready and we can tee up a time. As for the panels it doesnt matter as long as they have enough flat lengths in them. As for the HCL - I wouldnt it can cause more grief than you think. Remember, generally the slowest way to anything is usually the fastest. |

oh no its in the seal i had rust in the seals started cutting it out and found the hole seal was rusted so just coz its a small hole the seal could be full off it |
