The dear old Moke is struggling to get over its recent involvement in highway robbery -

But becuase of its recent brush with Ronald Biggs we have decided to keep it for the duration. Originally it was being moved on at the end of next year to make way for the next attempt at breaking as many bones whilst badly rebuilding a car.

But now it with us to stay - a sort of automotive pet.

So..get to the point BIAM!!

It is presently powered by the mighty 998 - and a mini diff (with 13inch wheels)

So...jeez just spit it out man

Would an 1100 transplant add much to the equation or should I just go the entire Kahuna and go for the 1275.

Mine is getting a 1098 bored to 1132 with an RE13, 1275 head, 1.31 rockers, 40DHLA Dellorto and an old 3-1 exhaust. I reckon I'll get 55HP ATW... :P
1275.... not needed in a Moke. The ones they fitted in the last Mokes only had as much grunt as a stock 1098 anyway.

I'll be running a 3.44 diff and 175/50-13s, if you are running the old 13" truck wheels and hi profile rubber, put a shorter diff in it.

With respect to the good Doc - the main advantage of any 1275 (nicely set up) is the huge amount of extra torque you get. Yep he is right, not a huge difference between a well developed small bore in all out performance but a huge amount more torque.

The main disadvantage is that you DO need disc brakes. You simply do, mainly because you will use the extra it has. You will arrive at corners and other things at a faster rate and you have to be abe to pull it up. Thats completely aside from the legal issues.

My wife's Morris 1100S is a classic example - its a fairly quick car and pulls hard up hills suprising many other motorists who think a little old greying haired lady in a 40 year old Morris 1100 shouldn't get past them up hill.

Your moke with a 1275 would be the same. But you need the brakes.

Mike

I'm using Anton's ex-JAM 1098 because I have it, it's getting 9.1" Honda Civic discs (engineered I hope), and with a recond radiator and a Clubby heater I doubt it'll get too hot.
